Happy birthday, uncle Jake. ❤️

When I married Jesse, I didn’t know all the ways God was working in my life. I knew I was getting Jesse, but I didn’t know yet that I was also getting Jake—and I could never have dreamed up what a gift he would be to me and to my children.

We call him Mom Two because he really is. He has helped raise my babies. He loves them, worries about them, shows up for them, and has been another parent to them their entire lives. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to put into words what it means to have someone love your children that much.

Jerry named Jake after his beloved Uncle Jack, and the older we get, the more that feels like something God knew long before we did. He knew exactly the kind of uncle Jake would become, and how deeply another generation of kids would love their uncle too.

Some people are just woven into your life in a way that could never have been accidental. Jake is one of those people for me.

My brother, their Uncle Jake, our Mom Two, and one of the greatest gifts God gave me when He gave me this family.

We love you, Uncle Jake. Happy birthday. ❤️

The Avengers united. ❤️

They came together with costumes, props, sets, decorations, food — all of it — and somehow created birthday dreams for my baby. They made sure Asher had his birthday party and that it went off without a hitch while I was at the hospital with Michael.

I will never have the words to fully express what yesterday meant to me. These humans are the best of the best. They didn’t ask what they could do. They saw what needed to be done, stepped in, and quite literally carried me through a day when I couldn’t carry any of it myself.

There’s a phrase about being the “hands and feet” of love — and yesterday, I understood exactly what that means. Love wasn’t just something people said to us. It had hands. It showed up at my house. It hung decorations and built sets. It put on costumes. It made food. It loved on my children and gave my little boy the birthday he had been dreaming about while I stayed beside my brother.

And then, in the middle of all that love, we received a miracle and a glimmer of hope.

Michael sat up. He squeezed my hand. And when I told him I loved him, he tried to respond. It was the first real sign we had gotten from him.

I don’t know how to adequately thank the people who have surrounded us, both near and far. Thank you for every prayer, every message, every act of service, and every ounce of love you have poured over our family.

Please keep praying for Michael. Yesterday, our village carried us — and for the first time, Michael gave us a little glimmer of hope. ❤️🙏

every time my alarm goes off hours before the sun comes up, there’s always a moment where I ask myself…

why do I do this?

then the peaks begin to glow
the birds find their song
everything feels a little more alive

and I remember

this is why

for the feeling waiting on the other side

I’m grateful in a way that’s hard to explain

because it all leads to this
