It started with a queue spanning Dean Street and wonder at what awaited inside.

It couldn’t be just another Friday night to celebrate @quovadissoho centenary and they certainly went to town Roman style with a good sprinkling of Bacchus, copious negronis, magnificent food - plenty considering the anchovy, including pissaladière & Vitello tonnato canapés 😋 - and a brilliant huge band - irresistibly danceable - between Madness & jazz. An incredibly insightful group with wonderful reflections and great debates and discussions. I’m blessed to do this work. It’s very humbling. It was especially thrilling (see previous post) to launch LEO at the iconic St. Bartholomew’s Hospital today with the woman who appointed me to my first Staff Nurse post in the room! We often talk about inspiring leaders in LEO and here is an important one for me and our other LEO Master Facilitator Sarah Ives @moobear10 Mrs. Elaine Law (R) was Head of Nursing for Neurosurgery and surgical specialities in the 80’s. I remember her in the crisp dark blue dress with separate white collar and long white veil she wore then. Despite ‘advice’ from everyone about working in general surgery first, I was driven to neurosciences and nothing was going to deter me. I (Dickon, L) got the job. Mrs. Law was a physiotherapist first and then became a neuro nurse. She was such a compassionate leader and role model. We were at the @bartsleagueofnurses AGM today 10.10.26, and this is where we launched LEO for Barts starting in January 2027. Our day always concludes with a beautiful Thanksgiving Service at the amazing 903 year old priory church of St Bartholomew the Great (you may recognize it from Four Weddings and a Funeral!). (Barts Hospital has two churches, the Great and the Less!). A key and poignant part of the service is commemorating the lives of Barts nurses who have died in the last year. It’s not often that we launch a LEO programme in a hospital that’s 903 years old and amongst Hogarth paintings and portraits of King Henry VIII! Welcome to the recently renovated (through charitable donations) Great Hall at the iconic St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London - the oldest hospital in the world still operating on the same site. We launched LEO here today in a unique pump priming project funded by the League of St Bartholomew’s Nurses at our AGM. It’s one of the few remaining London teaching hospital nurses leagues and funds education and benevolence. It was founded by Matron, Isla Stewart (1887-1910) 125 years ago. She said: ‘There is something about St Bartholomew’s, it may be in its age, its history, its associations which creates towards it, and in its strength, a unique feeling amongst its members’. I agree! Scroll for some amazing pictures of the renovation, and Will Palin (Michael Palin’s son) who directed the renovation. The first LEO Cohort is in January 2027. Generations of Barts nurses have been leaders but we hope LEO will inspire the next generation to follow in their footsteps. #leo #barts #leadership #hogarth #london

Huge congratulations to Andrea Clegg (L) and Jacob Minihan (R) our latest two licensed LEO Facilitators in UK & Ireland based at Sherwood Forest NHSFT @sherwood_forest_hospitals Andrea’s background is in Burns & Plastics nursing and Jacob is a psychologist. Andrea first did LEO over 20 years ago (when she was 1, obviously!) and now serves as Assistant Director for Nursing & AHP Development. She’s absolutely passionate about LEO and the links between leadership development, compassionate care and patient outcomes. She needs to be credited for getting LEO back into Sherwood Forest. I’m often asked who supports LEO administration and here she is! This is Nessie, COO for LEO for UK & Ireland. She’s a pretty strict taskmaster. And she’s also a 20 month old rescue pup having been found in a shopping bag in a garden in Toulouse. She adds more than one would ever realize to LEO! Congratulations to all of the LEO Cohort 1 graduates at Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (RCSI) Faculty of Nursing & Midwifery in Dublin. They not only got a LEO certificate but a beautiful RCSI one too! Also, pictured is the amazing Clodagh Barry, a proud expert pediatric cardio thoracic theatre nurse manager and later a very senior leader and manager. British Airways CityFlyer 8746 E190 service Bergerac (EGC) to London City (LCY) 30.08.26 seat 3D Club Europe with some great food and truly spectacular and faultless service. And some great (if murky) views of the Thames Estuary, Canary Wharf, Docklands and the Millennium Dome. The delicious Bloody Mary really hit the spot and the bread is fantastic, especially with Lurpak butter. The Chateau desserts are new to me but much more to my taste than the super sweet @docoglobal ones. Huge congratulations to our latest licensed LEO Facilitator, David (Dave) Soulsby at Chelsea & Westminster Healthcare (center left in a grey polo shirt and red shorts). He’s an expert in pediatric physiotherapy (playing rugby, and a very busy Dad too!) @sulley.1 We had a wonderful group of very committed nurses (cancer care, neonatal, medicine, critical care, ED, OR, sexual and reproductive health, among others) and physiotherapists (from pediatrics and MSK) in the group and it was a joyful and uplifting 3 days.
