Based on my video performance “Container” (2020), I was invited to develop a new work for the forecourt of the Deichtorhallen. Together with performer Gaëtane Douin, I again took the 20-foot shipping container as a point of departure. By repeatedly walking its exact dimensions, we used the standardized measure that structures countless interconnected forms of the global market as a choreographic tool.

Set against the backdrop of the Deichtorhallen exhibition spaces, with the railway tracks directly behind them and in close proximity to the river Elbe and the port of Hamburg, the performance made visible the spatial and symbolic presence of the shipping container. A single container vessel can carry up to 24,000 containers, their contents unknown even to those transporting them. The container itself remains an abstract form—its value reduced to standardized dimensions and a price determined by the global market.
Water, a precious resource, served as both a fleeting material and a carrier of traces. Through the movement of our bodies, ephemeral outlines of the container were drawn onto the ground. As they appeared, overlapped, shifted, and gradually disappeared, temporary spaces emerged between visibility and disappearance, tracing a landscape of movement, memory, and residues.

The title of this walking performance by artists Bärbel Praun and Gaëtane Douin is “20-foot”, a standardized container for transporting goods around the world. The length is around 6 metres. By 1970 the 20- and 40-foot sizes had become a practical compromise between existing roads and maritime systems, an exchangeable element of the global puzzle.

Walking and repeating this measurement by the artists creates relationship between the human body and the standardised world, turning physical presence into economic data. Water leaves traces that disappear if we don’t pay attention. Time matters.

The performance took place as part of the exhibition OKSANA YUSHKO – ZUGUNRUHE in the 40-foot container space at Deichtorhallen. The exhibition is on view until 19 July and explores the interconnected relationship between culture and nature in the context of contemporary crises.

From now on, for the rest of the year, you’ll find me in the swimming pool, on a mountain, or in my studio (with no exhibition deadlines) - I’m done!

What a crazy first half of the year that was: A duo show in Hamburg, a group exhibition in Stuttgart that Yasmin Alt and I organised and curated, a group exhibition in Leipzig, a new contribution to an exhibition in Berlin, a performance in all weathers, and another group exhibition in Berlin. On top of that, I’ve been doing several “money jobs” to pay the rent (and the rest), and added even more volunteering work to my list. Thanks a mil for all collaborations, invites, opportunities and exchanges - and the support and love from my friends (you know who you are 🧡)!

In der Walking Performance »20-foot« setzt die Künstlerin Bärbel Praun gemeinsam mit der Performerin Gaëtane Douin der Standardisierung einer globalisierten Welt, die durch die einheitliche Abmessung von Schiffscontainern sichtbar wird, das Maß des menschlichen Körpers entgegen. ⁠

Durch das wiederholte Vermessen des Vorplatzes der Deichtorhallen entstehen temporäre Räume, die sich überlagern, verschieben und zu einem offenen Gefüge verdichten. Wasser wird dabei zum flüchtigen Material und Träger von Spuren. Zwischen Sichtbarkeit und Verschwinden zeichnet die Performance eine Landschaft aus Bewegung, Erinnerung und Rückständen. ⁠

Die Performance findet im Rahmen der Ausstellung OKSANA YUSHKO – ZUGUNRUHE im 40ft-Container auf dem Vorplatz der Deichtorhallen statt. Diese untersucht die vernetzte Beziehung zwischen Kultur und Natur im Kontext gegenwärtiger Krisen.⁠

The program for the first edition of Tanztriennale Hamburg has just been released! @k3.tanzplan.hamburg is a founding member of the association behind Tanztriennale. The @tanztriennale is supported as a #CulturalBeacon by @kulturstiftungdesbundes and @bkm_hh.

Several K3-related works are on the program: @ricardour’s I AM DIFFERENT, first shown in our Limited Edition format, redefines classical ballet roles and explores identity and resistance from a non-binary, migrant perspective; and Regina Rossi’s POLIPOLIS (11+), a K3 co-production, takes audiences on a playful performative audio walk through Hamburg’s city centre 🩵

@explore.dance.network productions are also featured: @zinada__ ’s WUW – WIND UND WAND (10+) is a mobile dance performance about the in-between of childhood and adolescence, and @conni_trommlitz ’ TIE BREAK (11+) turns the urban dance battle into a metaphor for personal challenges, energy and expression. Der Hamburger Kindertheaterpreis 2025 von der @hamburgischekulturstiftung geht an die Choreografin @reginarossi.official für POLIPOLIS!

In dem performativen Audiowalk für alle ab 11 Jahren entwirft @reginarossi.official gemeinsam mit ihrem Team und jungen Hamburger Schüler*innen eine utopische Stadt: eine Stadt der Träume, in der Urbanität und Natur zusammengehören, Autos verschwunden sind und Kinder und Jugendliche Freiräume finden, ihren Gefühlen Ausdruck zu verleihen.

Herzlichen Glückwunsch auch an sagener_hoffmann für »Um die Ecke« sowie an kirschkern Compes & Co. für »Wohin mit dem Elefanten?«.

The Hamburg Children’s Theatre Award 2025, awarded by @hamburgischekulturstiftung , goes to choreographer and performer Regina Rossi for POLIPOLIS!

In this performative audio walk for everyone aged 11 and up, Rossi and her team – in collaboration with young students from Hamburg – imagine a utopian city: a dreamlike place where urban life and nature coexist, cars have disappeared, and children and teenagers can express their emotions freely.

Congratulations as well to sagener_hoffmann for »Um die Ecke« and kirschkern Compes & Co. for »Wohin mit dem Elefanten?«.

🇫🇷 Quel succès pour la 2ème édition de l'Elb'apéro 🤩 !!! Nous affichions, pour la seconde fois, COMPLET.
On a bien mangé, bien bu, dansé comme des fous et beaucoup ri 😍 grâce aux spécialités culinaires de @lebeauvoisin.hamburg, les vins de @tariswein et les délicieux petits fours sucrés de @die_patisserie_hamburg 😋 C'était la fête à bord de la @barkassetanja 🥳🥳🥳
