Major 2025 photo dump and a long-winded post nobody asked for! 🦇💜🖤

This year, I have been so grateful to perform alongside some of Hudson Valley's finest and find my niche in the ecosystem of performers. Lately, I've been reflecting on what it means to be a performer, and the privilege it is to combine art forms beneath the umbrella that is drag. In many instances, being a performer is not only a mode of expression, but a means of survival. Whether that is survival through financial gain, survival through the liberation of expression, or survival through gained community and family - I think it's important to acknowledge that before I earn my own stripes as a performer.
-
Why do I want to do drag? And moreover, what is my niche? When not in drag, I am an ecologist and environmental scientist, so forgive my metaphors! But this sort of questioning really comes from a desire to hone my stage presence, improve my costume-making, improve my paint, continue learning from others, and find myself in a way. But, this has also prompted me to do some soul-searching.

I'll admit that my personal life has been tumultuous lately, a lot of unexpected events impacting my finances and home life. Home has not been the safest at times. Working at a veterinary hospital has quickly drained me mentally and emotionally. My thyroid disease makes it hard to find the energy to even get up some days. However, despite these things being hard, there remains a community of artists that use their talents to weave their stories. When I'm at a drag show, I can be a part of their carefully spun worlds, finding humor in unexpected places, relating to characters through visual metaphors, and being captivated by the performer.
