Hamstring strains remain one of the most common injuries in basketball — with over 210 reported in the NBA from 2016-2021, often leading to reduced minutes, shooting efficiency, and high reinjury rates (up to 81% of players facing subsequent issues).

In the NBA, players perform frequent short explosive sprints — typically 5-32m (averaging ~7-15m per burst), with repeated accelerations/decelerations that heavily load the hamstrings during high-speed efforts and changes of direction.

Progressive sprint training helps mitigate risk.

Evidence from team sports shows that controlled exposure to high-intensity sprints (≥80-90% max speed) builds resilience by improving eccentric strength, fascicle length, and tolerance to game-like forces — reducing strain vulnerability through specificity rather than avoidance.

Train smart to sprint stronger and stay injury-free! 💨🏀

Excited to welcome Jacob Gallant as Director / Lead Mentor (National Team Pathway) for the CBPN! @gallantperformance

One of our primary goals through the CBPN is to offer invaluable mentorship and knowledge to the next generation of medical & performance professionals.

Through various mentorship pathways (NBA, WNBA, CEBL, USPORTS, NCAA, and National Team), the CBPN will have the necessary staff and resources needed to guide professionals regardless of their career goals in basketball.

Stay tuned for our mentorship cohorts launching in 2026! #CBPN
