Two days until the opening @gallery71nyc !! I am excited to share my work with you. For this exhibition I chose my collection NYC:The Sum of its Parts, photographs that depict fragments of the iconic people and places of this city. Seen together these images weave a fabric of culture and history. In this photograph the weathered bag, silver bracelets and inked hand are parts of a story that belong to a fabulous man - an artist, photographer, and dog lover who I have had the pleasure to know @willydogboy #washingtonsquarepark #washingtonsquareparknyc

SOLD! Always grateful when someone sees one of my photos and wants to give it a home. A special piece of arguably the most (in)famous New Yorker🪶 In my opinion, when it comes to film photography, bigger is always better. This piece measures framed 44 x 50 in. 📷

My summer studio, at the shadow of the most regal, gentle giant of a Blue Spruce, serves as the laboratory of ideas for my art. This summer in the High country of Colorado has been one of discovery: actively going into unperturbed forests and creeks, and giving my brain space to question and think. Something is different this summer: the drought has changed everything. I had been seeing new colors in the mountains and the trees, but it wasn’t until I asked and observed my Blue Spruce that I began the discovery of yet more systems of life and survival of the species on the planet. The colors are muted, the warm gray blue of the tree sparse, and the deep greens more yellow ochre and brown. What was I seeing?
I was seeing the species go into full survival mode, filling the tops of the trees with female pine cones galore, to the point of bending the tops of the trees. I was seeing millions of male petit pine cones filling the branches of the lower tree. They are ready to upper propagate the seeds from the female pine cones, and have the polen from the male ones blow far away to pollinate the seeds…survival of the species.
This I can do art about, this is the environmental artist being specific about recording this time on the planet. This is making pigment out of the polen that will insure that the mountains of Colorado renew and stay health. #contemporaryart #arte #environmentalart #colorado #abstract

Art is life. This is about a full circle moment: my baby monoprint that I personalized for a beloved young first time expectant mother, hanging in her baby boy’s nursery, is now being studied by her now 5 yr old. I make art as a legacy to humans, and that starts with young ones. If you have a young human in your life, and want to give them meaningful art, I have more monoprints for baby to personalize. You can DM me.

As an artist in Houston Texas, I have the privilege of watching the systems of the planet affect my garden. Many an inspiration and materials have come from my personal relationship with the source materials that end up in my art. My papayas, that I grow from seed every year, have given me joyful and nutritious fruit that I can harvest in the winter depending on the weather. This set of luscious papaya trees came down in a freeze loaded with 100 papayas, that became part of the soil. But they didn’t go to waste, as my curiosity of how they bent in death yielded and revealed an intricate layered hollow trunk made strong by the webbed membranes in the round. I’m in the process of drying them. I’m in constant lookout for new materials with specific histories. Papayas are part of my history growing up in El Salvador; they are a part of my experiential history, going to harvest them in the countryside. They are part of my taste memory, and part of my gardening in the land I call home now. And now they will become my art, to gift to the world.#contemporaryart #houston #abstract #environment #environmentalart
