An annoyingly long post 🫠

Three openings in Philly this October. Which feels a little surreal to type considering I quit my job a few months ago and was a little too nervous to even announce that part lol.

My first attempt at being an artist was about 6–7ish years ago. I wanted it so badly and thought that wanting it badly enough would somehow make the rest figure itself out. It did not lol. So I went back to work.

I sat behind my desk for years and worked as a Logistics Director by day but quietly building this entire other world in every available minute around it. While creating I put systems in place around my practice. I painted constantly. I kept a huge archive of work instead of feeling like everything needed to sell immediately. I used the resources I had to experiment, find new materials, make bigger work, put on shows, make important connections with not just galleries but other artists, and keep pushing ideas further.

Having a job gave me the freedom to protect my work. I could say no. I didn’t have to make something because someone told me it would sell. I didn’t have to change what I was doing to fit what the market wanted from me. I could fail at something and try it again. I got to build a body of work and more importantly a practice that actually felt like mine.

Initially I tried to plan a perfect exit but ended up rage quitting with no notice lol. I was so scared when I did it but realized I had already spent years preparing for this moment.

All of this to say, good things take time. Hope to see some of you throughout the month. Each show is special in its own way and I hope everyone can feel it.

I can’t believe it happened and I can’t believe it’s been so long since. I don’t think I ever made a post. So here are photos from the closing that was like 3.5 months later. So much of my life is different than it was then. Isn’t it crazy how life just, happens?

Last week I took a break from painting to get ready for @tkmemis’s solo show “Looks good, Feels good” at @gallerysix33. It’s been a while since I’ve hosted a show so I was really grateful when Tk said they’d want to work on their first solo together. Thank you to them and everyone who made it out; the support never goes unnoticed.

A lot of TLC went into this which really shows in all the details. Congrats Tk on a beautiful show, really proud of you for pulling it together 👏✨💅
