Tanya Wales’ ‘The Pause Between’ is on at Gallerysmith, Naarm/Melbourne until 31 October 2026.

Working through a disciplined process of poured acrylic layering, Wales creates abstract paintings where colour, light and form emerge through cycles of addition, subtraction, concealment and revelation. Beneath their restrained surfaces, layers of texture, unexpected colour relationships and considered decisions accumulate, allowing complexity to be absorbed and transformed into a sense of visual balance.

Influenced by lived experience, people, place and moments of heightened awareness, the works offer a response to the intensity of contemporary life without attempting to depict it directly. Rather than presenting a fixed narrative, Wales invites viewers to slow down and bring their own memories, emotions and perceptions to the encounter. Each painting becomes an invitation to pause, revealing subtle shifts in colour and light over time and creating space for meaning to emerge through looking rather than explanation.

“THE MISSION to THE MOONS of PLUTO” (2025-26) – 6th data transfer from Caleydoscopus.
Images: Gosia Wlodarczak
Storytelling: @wojtek_herman

The Silence of the Lambs
Halloween
A Nightmare on Elm Street
The Evil Code
Night of the Living Dead
The Conjuring
Child's Play
The Last Oatmeal Flakes
Murderous Dill Soup
The Two-Legged Mushroom Strangler from Boston

These are the horror titles that came to our minds while watching the current material from Caleydoscopus. The night Porcynaplantycia terrifies with her glossy, pitch-black surface and with what we previously referred to as the lenses of telescopes covered and uncovered, wholly or partly—alternately—by dark, openwork matter. Could these behaviours be a form of regulating her rotation around her own axis? The mad frequency of the moon's rotation and its deviations from the axis of pirouette rather gives the impression of losing self-control, which could have been further contributed to by sudden turns of the "mask" by 30 degrees, similarly—as we remember—to the movements of the sister "mask" on the daytime side. Except that in that case the movement, in contrast, was rotational, albeit with the same degree, but the lively expression of the lenses indicated fear, confusion and centrifugal force. Meanwhile, the "lenses" on the night side send out a warning, while maintaining composure and vigilance. It would follow that the lights opposition of the energies hidden beneath both "masks" may also play a role in the rapid, wobbly mills of the she-moon.

Eglembaryt Tet, the author of a recently published, remarkable work titled: "Nondisjunction of Zelebrushes in the Taxonomic Karmic Process”, emphasised in a flat voice that, overall, these behaviours remind him of the sophistication of his wife. We dismissed this remark with silent disbelief, thinly veiled by a male chauvinistic sympathy directed in parallel—though perhaps not coincidentally—towards the Helisa nebula (700 light-years from Earth).” (TBC) full version on FB

$Recollections of Anaxagoras Oh – 5 “THE MISSION to THE MOONS of PLUTO” (2025-26) – 5th data transfer from Caleydoscopus. Images: Gosia Wlodarczak Storytelling: @wojtek_herman “And here's the next, the fifth chapter of our probe's flight around the Porcynaplantycja. In the foreground of the transferred video, we see the flight paths of space debris which stitch up the space, guided by the hands of some unpredictable intergalactic seamstress/tailor, an androgynous being. Beneath the forming cobweb, an unusual sight, because this time we witness the passage of a probe from the day side to the night side of the Porcynaplantycia—and here we are stunned, for it appears that there is no clear boundary between these areas, and the day part fades away like a ghost, dissolving into blackness giving way to the emerging, contrastingly material, night side of the she-moon. From the analysis of the previous data it appears that, the day side is equally material, but it seems that it is only when observed and this correlation should, we presume, also apply to the night side. We will only find out though when Caleydoscopus leaves it. Leonard Xo, co-author of the new scientific paradigm of the ultimative theory of nothingness, soberly observed that this thesis was too bold and the result of anthropocentric megalomania rather than an approach that does justice to the as yet unknown laws at work in the cosmos. He added that dual status may be her rudimentary feature. After all, if the sixth moon isn't there at all, why couldn't the seventh be only half and half at a time, but if so both sides alternately exist or don't exist. Ah Porcynaplantycia—what value can an analysis of your nature have when science lacks concepts and tools to study it. You must be surrounded by a secret sphere, like a cocoon, that gives you such unique qualities. Returning to the fading day side, which, as it dissipates, reveals an intriguing entity, or in the context of disappearance, an apparition resembling slightly tilted lips inviting for closer contact, as if it were sending a conciliatory kiss into infinite space as a safeguard. …” (TBC) {full version FB} #gosiawlodarczakdrawingextended$

$RECOLLECTIONS OF ANAXAGORAS OH – 4 (2026) “THE MISSION to THE MOONS of PLUTO” (2025-26) — 4th data transfer from Caleydoscopus. Images: Gosia Wlodarczak Storytelling: @wojtek_herman “We all waited anxiously for further materials from Caleydoscopus, but the most impatient and nervous was the naturally excitable Marek Er, a doctor of physical sciences and a specialist in the field of galaxy physics. To be specific, he bit off all his fingernails, then his toenails, and then he tried to get at the long, carefully cultivated nails of the right hand of Paweł De (an expert in the field of condensed matter physics) which were necessary for him in his amateur playing of the classical guitar, and their absence would have forced him to use the despised pick to play this instrument, … data from the probe arrived! That relieved the tension in Marek Er by extinguishing the wild gleam in his eyes, like an animal that had spotted its prey. It must be said that Porcynaplantycja surprised us again. Caleydoscopus sent a video that is not very long, but full of surprising data and showing the irregular structure of this moon, rather characteristic of an asteroid. This feature however, is not as surprising as the fact that some of its areas are mobile, which makes it similar to some hybrid made of inorganic and organic matter. Suffice it to say that Porcynaplantycja not only rotates quickly around its wobbly axis, so that our satellite sometimes gets out of breath, but also shows recombinant variability of matter. This property even caused a reaction from an atomic physicist—with whom I went to the same high school—in the form of an exclamation: Oh my God!! Oh my God!! – he repeated and froze in a stupor that decapitated all more scientific references. Vercingetorix, an extraordinary figure in human history, would probably have laughed boldly in his place as he struck his great sword Gurbelas against a strange monitor, but our atomic physicist was only a scientist, an intellectual.” (TBC) {Polish version on FB} English text editing @slindsay.studio Gosia is represented @gallerysmith_$

$RECOLLECTIONS OF ANAXAGORAS OH –2 (2026) “THE MISSION to THE MOONS of PLUTO” (2025-26) —- 2nd data transfer from Caleydoscopus. Images: Gosia Wlodarczak Storytelling: @wojtek_herman “Our probe Caleydoscopus sent us new data from the Pluto’s seventh moon Porcynaplantycia: a series of photographs and a short, particularly intriguing video. The video depicts the eruption of a volcano with two craters, the shape and structure of which is inevitably associated—although it must be a purely accidental similarity—with an anatomical part of the human body, known to us. One of our astrophysicists commented on this in his characteristic manner: “God did indeed create man in His own image, but was horrified by the result—it was, however, already too late. Fortunately, He came up with this idea at the very end of creation, thereby sparing the rest of organic and inorganic life. Consequently, He treated humankind as a sort of signature on His completed work.” Furthermore the video we have at our disposal shows one of the craters with a volcanic cloud emerging in a form resembling the Calcitrator (a tool for delivering kicks to repulsive-looking designates). The eruption reaches a place where the moon’s gravity does not allow it to go higher/lower to develop — these are useless concepts in space — and begins to rock sideways in a repetitive manner, as if in a gesture....no, it’s not possible!!!...a gesture of greetings!!! Our classical physics expert’s reaction to this image was instantaneous, his suprahyoid muscles relaxed and the earth’s gravity brought his jaw down to a position that revealed it was missing two molars, one premolar and a canine. —The tuna sandwich fell from the hand and rolled at the feet of our another colleague—the special relativity expert — who, staring at the monitor either out of reflex or out of simple politeness, raised his right hand and waved back in greetings.” – (TBC) {Polish version on FB} Gosia is represented by Gallerysmith. #gosiawlodarczakdrawingextended #animation #storytelling #sztukawspółczesna #drawingonscreen$
