🟣🗣NEW: 'At 28, I was diagnosed with stage two rectal cancer... You just always think it’s never going to be you.'

🎥🎤Chief Reporter James Gould speaking to Aisling Gallagher.

👥She has this message for Health Minister Robbie Butler and the wider Executive.

❗️Aisling Gallagher, who grew up in Crumlin, County Antrim, was working as a personal shopper in London when she first began feeling unwell in 2020.

She flew home to Northern Ireland in early March and contacted her GP, concerned about symptoms including a change in bowel habits, stomach pain, weight loss and bleeding.

In February 2021, Aisling underwent surgery to remove the tumour and was fitted with a temporary stoma bag to allow the area to heal. She proudly named her stoma “Shaz” and was open with her social media followers, showing the reality of what it means to live with a stoma bag.

She’s at Stormont today with Cancer Research UK to back calls for urgent action after new analysis from Cancer Research UK found that around 5,900 lives could be saved by 2040 if the Northern Ireland Executive acts.

Ahead of next year’s Stormont election, the charity has urged all politicians to commit to reducing the cancer death rate by 15% by 2040 through the implementation of the 2022–2032 Cancer Strategy for Northern Ireland.

More on-air and online.
