A few weeks ago, we had the chance to pitch Gamr at the AIC Startup Showcase in Lagos, and it was one of those rooms that reminds us why we keep building.

Meeting new people, having new “hellos”, handshakes, sharing what we’re working on, impact we’re creating across different spaces, and seeing the possibilities that can come from putting the right people in one room is a feeling I’d like to keep experiencing.

Cheers to more moments like this. Next stop, Kenya!

Nigeria isn’t just playing. We’re building.

Our traffic, humour, money conversations, neighbourhoods and everyday experiences are becoming material for new kinds of entertainment.

Games like Lagos Life and Lagos Run are a reminder that Nigerian realities can become technology, intellectual property and stories people want to experience.

And perhaps that is the bigger opportunity: creating from what is already ours.

What Nigerian experience deserves its own game next?

What happens when you bring a room full of founders together and give them the space to be honest about what it really takes to build?

Last week, our Cohort 6 founders came together for the AIC Founders Retreat, a space designed for founders to step away from the day-to-day operations of their ventures and have the candid conversations that can be difficult to have while building.

They put their businesses in the hot seat, receiving feedback from fellow founders on specific aspects of their businesses and challenging each other to think differently.

In our Builder-to-Builder session, led by Folake Owodunni, Co-Founder and CEO of Emergency Response Africa (ERA), founders learned from her experience with Hiring Your First Real Leadership Hire and how she got it wrong once before getting it right. Folake shared candid lessons from building ERA, a health-tech company using technology to connect people experiencing medical emergencies with trained first responders, ambulances and hospitals across Africa.

In our Builder-to-Backer session, led by Mosorire Aiyeyemi, Investment Analyst at British International Investment, founders explored "The Patterns He Now Screens For". Drawing from his experience across energy access, business intelligence and project development in Nigeria, Mosorire shared insights into what investors look for and the patterns founders should be mindful of as they build and grow.

These are the kinds of conversations that move ventures forward. They help founders identify gaps in their businesses and, more importantly, remind them that they are not alone. Sometimes, one of the most valuable things a founder can have is the opportunity to sit in a room with people who understand the journey firsthand.

We are glad to create that space for our founders, and we know they will carry these lessons with them as they continue to build, grow and navigate what comes next.

📽️ Listen to what our founders had to say and experience the retreat with us.
