Testing out the new @gapasea walki-talkie glasses. Turns out I just get an insight in to everyone’s inner monologue 😆

When I first reached out to @gapasea, I wasn’t interested in the music features… I wanted to know how these glasses were communicating.

They claim something I’ve never seen in another pair of smart glasses: full-duplex walkie-talkies with mesh repeating. Every pair of glasses on the same channel can relay messages, extending the network as more users join.

So naturally, I grabbed my HackRF.

I first verified the RF activity in the 2.4 GHz band, then assumed they were using ESP-NOW and started looking for packets with an Alfa adapter…

Nothing.

No ESP-NOW traffic at all.

After digging deeper, I found they appear to be using a proprietary encrypted BLE communication system instead. As someone who loves reverse engineering wireless protocols, that immediately got my attention.

The result is surprisingly impressive: crystal-clear, full-duplex conversations that feel more like a phone call than a traditional walkie-talkie, without the static you’d expect from most radios.

There’s a LOT more technology packed into these glasses than I expected… and I’m only scratching the surface. 🤯
