@artsalonzurich | Booth F6
As you enter, Gerold Tagwerker’s construct_unfinished spreads across the floor. Walk around it and the booth keeps changing, as the walls, the works and you yourself fold into the reflections.

Further in, Morice Lipsi’s lava stone sculptures stand on white plinths, dark and dense against the light. Garda Alexander’s SEED sculptures answer them in patinated copper.

On the walls, Tagwerker’s mondrian.mirrors and the colour fields of Marco Casentini meet the quiet precision of Aurélie Nemours and Max Bill.

We would love to welcome you.

Artist in Residence at Château Saint Jean Art & Culture. 🇫🇷😊🙏
Every artist leaves a unique imprint on a place, while the place quietly leaves its mark on the artist.
During her residency at Château Saint Jean, Garda Alexander has immersed herself in the beauty of the surrounding landscape, the silence of nature, and the timeless atmosphere of the château. Inspired by light, colour, form, and the rhythms of nature, she has created a remarkable collection of works where simplicity becomes deeply expressive.
Each artwork is accompanied by her own thoughtful words, inviting the viewer to pause, reflect, and discover a deeper dialogue between image and language.
We are deeply grateful to Garda for sharing her creativity, generosity, and artistic vision with us. It has been a privilege to witness her creative journey unfold within these historic walls.
If you are an artist looking for time, space, and inspiration to develop your work, we would love to hear from you.

MEET THE ARTIST | @garda.alexander
Garda Alexander was born in Germany and has been based in Zurich since 1990. Her artistic focus spans painting, sculpture and spatial concepts — shaped by an unusually broad education across multiple countries, including a study in human medicine that influenced her work significantly, an academy stay in Colombia, and a guest year at the School of Fine Arts & Design in Bratislava with Prof. Fischer.

Colour, form and light are the creative elements at the foundation of her practice. "Colour is like music — a certain frequency or wavelength — which reaches the human being on different planes and can speak to us in many different ways." Her work moves fluidly between the geometric and the organic, the scientific and the poetic — always in pursuit of what she calls the timeless: light and colour freed from the constraints of matter.

Color Play blue belongs to her lacquer works — a technique that allows colour to exist simultaneously in two states: gloss and matte, presence and disappearance, surface and depth. At 98 × 78 cm, the work commands attention without demanding it. It simply holds light — and changes with it.

Her spirit of inquiry and curiosity drives her to explore new materials and techniques, using each to express a specific view or perspective. In Lech, surrounded by alpine light that shifts by the hour, her work finds its ideal interlocutor.

When curiosity meets creativity, great stories emerge.

Art writer Sonia Jebsen, known for her passion for connecting Switzerland’s art scene with that of neighboring France, engaged in an intimate exchange with German artist Garda Alexander in collaboration with iazzu.

German artist Garda Alexander reflects on the deep connections between art, science, and perception. After several years studying medicine—an experience sparked by personal loss—she developed a profound fascination with the human body and the structures that sustain life. Although she ultimately returned fully to art, this scientific background continues to shape her artistic thinking. In conversation with Sonia Jebsen, Garda shares how analytical observation and intuitive exploration meet in her practice. Working across painting, drawing, sculpture, and spatial installations, she explores the subtle relationships between body, space, and nature.

October’s always one of my favorite months. Everything’s on, everyone’s back and you can feel that pulse: art openings, theater lights, long talks, late nights.
That mix of energy and chaos that somehow makes everything.
