Happy 40th Birthday Casualty! 🎂 Having been involved in both the 30th and 35th Anniversary Specials (see last few pics), it was a no-brainer when I was asked to come back last December & join in on the 40th celebrations. It was the first time in 3.5 years I’d been back to the Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff and my first scene was a classic handover. Yikes! That recognisable panic of medical jargon! But within an hour, it was like I’d never left! So many familiar faces, particularly amongst the crew & background artists and the most lovely, warm welcome from the regulars. I’d missed the belly laughs and puerile chats between takes! A terrific nostalgic week, sharing the screen with the legend Derek Thompson (aka Charlie) and topped off with the annual Christmas party! In conversation with the producers we wanted to ensure that, though brief, it wasn’t just a cameo for Ethan. Life has carried on for him away from Holby and we were keen to continue to shine a light on living with Huntington’s Disease. As for the future, I’d like to think there are more stories to tell, but for now, thank you for all the (literally) thousands of comments! I just opened my first issue of ‘In the Frame’!! I have been reading the @aco’s magazine for YEARS, so I was equal parts honoured and fully frikkin daunted to be asked to step in as Editor. It’s been a big learning curve, but I am hoping that you’ll enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed working on it. The ‘Camera Chats’ feature with Jason Ewart is a new idea of mine. Interviews instead of self-submitted articles for those who prefer it. I just think sometimes a coffee and a chat is way more enjoyable than the daunting task of writing a feature piece at home. If you would like to be interviewed to shed some light on one of your recent projects, please get in touch. Massive thank yous to all involved. As with everything with the ACO, it’s a community effort. All contributors, patrons and editorial team members have given 100% in to this whilst managing everything else. What a fantastic couple of days! 🎬 I was honored to rub shoulders with and learn from some of the absolute gurus of the film industry. Huge thanks to @aco_uk for running such an incredible workshop! BBC Casualty Christmas trailer….It was an amazing opportunity and such a pleasure to direct. The challenge of filling resus with over 4 inches of snow, making it continually snow and moving a camera along what becomes a trail of destruction, whilst not seeing any footprints and do it all in a day, turning resus back to normal, like it was untouched was a big one. An incredibly hard working crew smashed it and achieved just that. We shot the sequence as one, with the plan of putting it out as a one shot, but with all the sound and effects in post adding so much atmosphere a cut/fade worked better going to the beat and rhythm. Even though plans change in post, it still meant on the day we had to time and pace everything as one. Shooting in 60fps to emphasise the snow fall meant we had to go even quicker to get the shot in the allowed time frame. After multiple takes with lots of adjustments, even an alternative ending we had multiple useable takes to use. Swipe to see some behind the scenes shots!
