This book holds a very special place in my heart. 🤎📖
A fictional story rooted in real-life experiences, Dera Zahira Ji tells the story of Ghulam Ali and Zaheera against the heartbreaking backdrop of the Partition.
While reading this book, there were moments when I felt as if I wasn’t just reading about the characters, but actually living their lives. Their emotions, their struggles, and their pain felt so real that I found myself deeply connected to their world.
The Partition changed countless lives, separated people from their homes and loved ones, and left behind stories that were never fully told. Half of those stories disappeared with the people who lived them, people whose names we may never know and whose lives we may never fully understand.
Through his writing, Sachin NG has introduced me to a side of history that I could never have understood so deeply through facts alone. This book reminded me that behind every historical event, there are countless untold stories, broken hearts, and lives forever changed.
Some books don’t just tell you a story; they make you feel as if you have lived it. And this one will always be one of those books for me. 🕊️📚
A heartfelt appreciation for @GargSachin for bringing such a powerful story to life. 🤎.

📖Dear Zahira, with Love.
By : @gargsachin

Amidst the process of partition of India, struggles Ghulam Ali ji, for his permanent Indian citizenship or else, he would have to go back leaving his homeland. That's how he finds his way to the office to change the citizenship and also to the heart of Zahira, the love of his life.
Set against the backdrop of partition, the story takes us through a very different lovestory, that cannot be found today if dugged deep in the soil.🤌🏻

This story is something that makes the book unputdownable for you.It shows us how the life of people can be turned upside down in a jiffy and how the people on one side of the earth, happy and together can be at very different corners, separated, the next moment....🫠

But what really keeps the readers interested yet really Comforting is the way zahira and Ghulam Ali stood for each, having faith in their love, even if not meeting or being together, through the letters.....
Another element worth Sharing was the way people got united, irrespective of caste, or religion during times of distress.....🫴🏻💗

As a student taking the major in History, the story personally carved a space straight into my heart. This was never a story to read and forget, but one that would remain in the heart and mind of the reader for a very long time!!🥺❤‍🩹

Once again, Thankyou so much @gargsachin for sending this my way. Grateful to read this beautiful love story, that teaches, " Love stays no matter what, if true enough, regardless of the distance or the situation!"🫠🤍✨

Book Review

Book: Dear Zahira, with love
Author: Sachin NG @gargsachin

Where should I begin with this book? “Dear Zahira, with love” is a book I kept reading just to know how it ends. And honestly I am really happy with the ending. The book revolves around Ghulam Ali and Zahira Raza and the letters exchanged between both of them.

Being a person who loves to write letters and receive them, I am in awe with this book.

The book starts with Ghulam Ali going to a government office to apply for an Indian passport where he meets Zahira Raza.

The story is built around the partition of India which most of the people think is an event that began in 1947 and ended in the same year. But the truth remains ugly. It continued for decades and even continues till date. There are so many people who were displaced, families that were separated and lives that were taken in the name of partition. So many cases of land disputes, nationality and documents still pending in courts, files moving from one table to the other. People spend their entire lives at a refugee camp just because they can’t prove their identity. How is it justified?

What I loved the most about the book is the rawness of the letters, the love that survived the distance, the patience of waiting and finally knowing about Zubeida.

This book is going to stay with me for a little while and I am definitely recommending it to everyone!

Not to forget, the cover of the book is equally gorgeous❤️

Dear Zahira with Love by Sachin NG
Ratings - 4.5/5

It's a collection of letters between Zahira from Lucknow and Ghulam Ali from Hindu Refugee Camp in Lahore!
How partition changed the lives of people from both the countries has beautifully shown in this book. It was not merely an event of a single day, Partition brought nightmare in the lives of people.
Before Partition, Ghulam Ali was in Pakistan; but when this very incident happened he wanted to return to India, and for this, he obtained a forged passport but was caught by the police and handed over to Pakistani authorities, where he suffered great atrocities. He eventually sought refuge in a Hindu refugee camp and communicated with Zahira through letters; he wished to come to India but could not find any assistance.
The conversation between the two, conveyed through letters in this book, is deeply emotional; reading it will transport you back to that era.
The book carries so much love, loss, longing, deep emotions and pain that you will feel it!
What stayed with me after reading this book the helplessness the characters carried.

So, If you want to know how partition changed people's lives, you should go for this book!

I fell in love with the cover and I cannot pinpoint why💜

The book tells the story of Ghulam Ali who meets Zahira on his brief return to India. India refuses to take him back. He finds himself in a Hindu refugee camp, suspected of being a Pakistani spy 💔

Written as an exchange of love letters set in 1950s ⭐

Book Review: Dear Zahira With Love by @gargsachin

Some books tell you a story, and some make you feel the weight of a history you have never truly experienced before. Dear Zahira, With Love was the latter for me.
I absolutely loved this book. The concept of telling a story through epistolary form , through letters felt so unique, almost like stepping into an old-school kind of love , 2 people in love seperated by borders and where words carried feelings that couldn't be expressed otherwise. There was something incredibly beautiful about the way love, longing, and hope found their way onto paper.

This was my first time reading a book based on the Partition, and it made me think about the countless ordinary people whose lives were destroyed because of it. People lost their homes, their loved ones, and the only life they had ever known. Many were left stranded, separated from their families, and treated as outsiders in lands they had once called home. They hadn't done anything wrong, yet they had to suffer the consequences of political decisions, religious divisions, and borders they had never asked for

What made the book even more special was how connected I felt to the characters. The writing made their emotions feel real, and the love between Ghulam Ali and Zahira Raza, especially the yearning and the ache of being separated from someone you love, felt so genuine. Their love wasn't just about being together , it was about holding on to someone despite circumstances that kept pulling them apart.
For 19 years they longed for each other and the reunion truly brought tears..
And knowing that this is based on a true story made everything hit so much harder. It wasn't just a beautiful love story anymore, it was a reminder that behind every historical event are real people with real lives, dreams, and people they desperately wanted to return to.

For me, this was a bittersweet read, both sad and happy by the end. It left me thinking about love, loss, belonging, and how deeply political decisions can affect the lives of ordinary people. I'm glad I read this book, and I think the story of Ghulam Ali and Zahira will stay with me for a long time.

Dear Zahira, With Love by @gargsachin is a deeply emotional story about Zahira and Ghulam, two souls whose love is torn apart by the India Pakistan Partition. Told through their letters, every word carries so much love, longing, and pain. What makes their story even more heartbreaking is knowing that the distance between them wasn’t simply a matter of miles, but a border that changed lives, separated families, and left scars that lasted for generations.

Every letter made us think about love in a different way. “What is love if not exchanging letters?” “What is love if you can’t make yourself believe in it?” There is something incredibly intimate about watching their relationship unfold through words, especially as they hold on to each other despite years of waiting, distance, uncertainty, and sacrifice.

Our hearts especially broke for Zahira, raising Zubeida alone through so much struggle, and for everything Ghulam and the refugees in Lahore had to endure. We also adored Naani, who, despite the era she lived in, felt surprisingly modern in the way she believed in Zahira’s independence.

This book genuinely shattered us. It made us feel the weight of Partition beyond the history books, showing how a single line drawn on a map could change the course of people’s lives forever. And perhaps the most devastating part is realizing that 79 years later, the political hatred and divisions that caused so much pain still persist.

By the end, we weren’t just thinking about Zahira and Ghulam’s love. We were left with questions, emotions, and little pieces of their story that stayed with us long after we finished reading. A heartbreaking and beautiful story of love, separation, resilience, and the hope of finding your way back to the person who feels like home. 🤍
