With voter ballots mailed and the election season in full force, the latest San Francisco Bay Times looks at the Alice B. Toklas LGBTQ Democratic Club and its current and past impact on governance. A large number of Alice club members have gone on to elected or appointed office. Check out our list to learn about just some of these leaders. Columnists John Lewis and Stuart Gaffney begin a series of articles on LGBTQ+ rights cases currently before the U.S. Supreme Court. Ann Rostow and Joanie Juster provide their take on the latest local and national political news. In the Bay Times Arts & Entertainment section, film critic Gary Kramer reviews Dolly Parton films. (See which one he dislikes so much that he refuses to write about it, out of respect for Dolly!) Columnist and multiple Emmy winner Jan Wahl dishes again on film credits and what the titles mean. Dr. Tim Seelig—the Conductor Laureate of the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus—shares some of his favorite songs. David Landis, The Gay Gourmet, reviews a vegetarian Indian restaurant that is both "shameless" and "scrumptious." Columnists Donna Sachet and Sister Dana Van Iquity write about the latest entertainment news and more. And this issue also looks back on the Castro Street Fair, recent galas, and other events with photos from our team of photographers led by Rink—who helped inspire Harvey Milk to start the Castro Street Fair and has photographed every fair since! In addition to reading the latest issue of the Bay Times, we also invite you to join us this National Hispanic Heritage Month for the Second Annual Honoring LGBTQ+ Bay Area Latine Women Leaders & Allies. The event will take place on October 30 at CANA in the heart of the Mission and will be co-emceed by Olga Talamante and Rev. Miguel Bustos, with support from Viva Paredes and music by DJ Olga T. What if the person who makes you feel seen is the one who ends up consuming you? Scorch Marks is a queer psychological supernatural horror film about a complicated, toxic relationship between Joel and Beckett, and that very human need to find the people who make us feel seen and like we belong. It explores how that desire for connection can become dangerous when love starts to blur into control, all while the end of the world is unfolding around you and slowly isolating you from reality, and even from your own sense of self. I talked with @garyemkramer at @phillygaynews about playing Joel, and why I never wanted him to be a one-note villain. A @mydekkoo original, streaming October 1. Watch at dekkoo.com on Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, or Prime Video Channels. Swipe for the poster. 🔥 Written & directed by @brendanhaley · Photo 1 by @shotbylester #ScorchMarks #Dekkoo #QueerHorror #LGBTQFilm #IndieHorror HorrorMovie PhillyGayNews

The director spoke with PGN about her fabulous new film that will hopefully reach U.S. theaters soon. Click the link in bio for the full interview. . . . . . . . #Julian #JulianIsAMermaid #LouiseBagnall #LGBTQFilms #AnimatedFilms Promotional graphic for a Philadelphia Gay News interview features an illustration from the animated film "Julián" of Julián imagining themself as a mermaid surrounded by glowing blue whales. The headline reads, “Dir. Louise Bagnall explores emotional truth without labels in ‘Julián.’” The subhead reads, “The filmmaker discusses adapting Jessica Love’s beloved children’s book, ‘Julián is a Mermaid,’ into an animated feature.” The byline credits Gary M. Kramer, and the PGN logo appears at bottom right.

I’ve looked at this note on my dry erase board every day over the past year. Today, I’m overjoyed to say that the manuscript and all supporting materials for ‘World Film Locations: Philadelphia’ have been delivered to @intellectbooks. After thirteen months of research, photography, writing, editing and compiling, this is a major milestone that can only surpassed by the book’s publication. More soon to come! #worldfilmlocationsphiladelphia #philadelphia #filminglocations
