🦆 Reflection

The Puna teal (Spatula puna) is native to the high-altitude wetlands of the Andes in South America, where it can be found in countries including Peru, Bolivia and Chile.
One of its most distinctive features is its striking powder-blue bill, contrasting beautifully with its black cap and creamy-white face.
A lovely moment captured, with the water providing a near-perfect reflection. 💙#PunaTeal #WaterfowlPhotography #DuckPhotography #BirdPhotography #wildlifephotography

Solitude Afloat 🦆

A moment of quiet on the water.

This Red-breasted Merganser seemed completely at home, sitting low in the calm water with its reflection stretching beneath it. There was something wonderfully peaceful about the scene — just one bird, surrounded by nothing but water.
Red-breasted Mergansers are diving ducks and members of the “sawbills”, named for the serrated edges of their long, slender bills, which help them grip slippery fish. They can be found on both freshwater and coastal waters, although they are particularly associated with the coast during winter. #birds #merganser #wildbirdsphotography #wildbird #wildlife

🪽 Stillness
A Moment in Nature — No. 7

I was on my way home when I caught sight of the lake and decided to stop for a while. I found a spot beside the water, sat down and simply took in the view.
Then, quite literally, this gull landed right in front of me.
It fluffed its feathers, had a little stretch and then settled quietly for a few minutes before eventually moving on to the adjacent river.
There was something wonderfully peaceful about watching it just doing what gulls do, completely unconcerned by my presence.
I hadn't planned to stop. I hadn't planned to take this photograph.
Sometimes you just have to stop, sit quietly and let nature come to you.
Stillness. 🪽 #wildlife #gullsofinstagram #NaturePerfection #naturallightphotography #wildlifephotographer

🌺 Crimson After the Rain

A little insight into the process behind this image.
This photograph was created using 28 individual images, carefully focus-stacked in Helicon Focus to bring the depth of detail across the flower into focus.
The original stack produced a technically detailed image, but I wanted to take it a little further creatively. With a little help from AI, the final image was refined to bring out the rich colour, texture and individual raindrops.
For me, photography isn't always about getting everything perfect in a single frame. Sometimes it's about experimenting, trying different techniques and seeing where the image takes you.
28 images. One flower. One final photograph. 🌺📷 #macrophotography #FlowerPhotography #closeupshot #photostacking #canon

🍃 A Moment in Nature No. 6 — The Unexpected Visitor

A couple of days ago, I noticed a little bird moving around in the silver birch. I couldn't see it clearly enough to identify it, so I reached for my camera, which happened to have the 400mm attached.
No changing settings, no carefully planned composition — just point and shoot.
Looking at the images afterwards, I discovered my little visitor was a Coal Tit.
Coal Tits are Britain's smallest tit species and are often found moving quickly through woodland, searching amongst branches and foliage for insects and other small foods. Their distinctive black cap, white cheeks and pale patch at the back of the neck make them surprisingly recognisable once you get a good look at them.
Sometimes the best photographs aren't the ones you planned. Sometimes you just have to point the camera and see what you've found. 📷🌿#wildbirds #coaltit #naturelovers #rspb #Wildlife

I called this, cliffside character.

Puffins may look rather comical, but there is much more to these little seabirds than their colourful appearance.
They spend much of their lives at sea, coming ashore during the breeding season to raise a single chick, usually in a burrow within the cliffs or grassy slopes. Their colourful bills are at their brightest during the breeding season and become duller after the season ends.
Puffins are remarkably well adapted to life at sea. Their wings are built for fast, purposeful flight, while their specially adapted bills allow them to carry several small fish at once — sometimes returning to the colony with an impressive catch.
And perhaps one of their most endearing qualities is their loyalty to their nesting sites, often returning to the same colony year after year.
A little character on the cliffside, perfectly adapted to a life between land and sea. #seabirds #puffin #WildlifePhotography #NaturePerfection #naturecuties

Something a little different today What an amazing breakfast! ☕️🥐✨
Had the most fantastic breakfast this morning at @chamomilecafe at Nantwich Marina — and what a lovely experience from start to finish.
The owner is absolutely brilliant, and the staff genuinely couldn’t do enough for us. Friendly, welcoming and attentive without being over the top — just the way it should be. ❤️
The food was superb, the setting is lovely, and the whole morning was a real treat.
10/10 from me — highly recommended! 👌
If you’re around Nantwich Marina, definitely give @chamomilecafe a visit. You won’t be disappointed! 🌸☕️

A Moment in Nature 5 — Golden Hour

There was something rather special about watching this young Pied Avocet at the end of the day.
Still developing its adult plumage, it stood in the shallows as the evening sun turned the water to gold, seemingly in no particular hurry to be anywhere else.
A few steps through the water, a splash here and there, and for a brief moment everything seemed to slow down.
Sometimes nature doesn't need to put on a spectacular display. Sometimes it's simply about being there at the right moment.#goldenhour

Hi Frens, today I have been betrayed by my No1 hooman not not the back up. My pops fed me, carried me down stairs as is fitting for my status, but then he left me with the back up hooman for morning walks. Then my No1 hooman goes to the cafe leaves me home with yes you got it the back up hooman then he comes home with cake for backup hooman nothing for me. Also smelling of Staffordshire bull terrier and 3 whippets this I feel is not acceptable so I've put my No1 hooman on probation. For a week.

I called this mother's vigilance

Mute swans are fascinating birds, not only for their beauty but for the strong bonds they form.
They commonly form long-term pair bonds, with both parents playing an important role in raising and protecting their cygnets. Once the young arrive, the family often remains together for many months as the cygnets grow and develop.
Swans are also remarkably good at recognising individuals and familiar places, which may help explain why particular birds can become familiar sights to those who regularly spend time around them.
Looking at this photograph, it's easy to imagine the quiet concentration of a mother sitting on her nest, keeping watch over what will hopefully become the next generation.
There is something rather special about seeing that bond between parents and their young unfold in the wild.
