One of the things I appreciate most about our students is the way they demonstrate leadership through their actions. After last week’s football game, GAHS senior Grishma Vyas went above and beyond, helping clean up the student section stands after the crowd had gone home. It’s easy to show school spirit when the stands are full and everyone is cheering. But taking pride in your school when the game is over? That’s a different kind of leadership. Grishma, thank you for setting an example for your fellow Warriors and showing what it means to live the Warrior Way. These are the stories that make me proud to be a Warrior! Share your Warrior Story that Sticks in the GASD Quick Links on our profile. #GASDisGreat #WarriorWay #GASDisAGreatPlacetoLearn

On World Teacher Day, I’m thinking about the educators who show up each day ready to do one of the most important jobs we can ask of someone: help a Warrior learn, grow, and find their place in the world. Teaching happens in the lessons, but it also happens in the conversations before class, the extra encouragement after a difficult day, the celebration of a student’s progress, and the countless moments when a teacher believes in a student. I see that commitment throughout GASD. Our staff bring their knowledge, their creativity, and most importantly, their belief in our students to school with them daily. To our teachers, thank you for all you do, including the things that may never make it into a lesson plan but matter deeply to a student. If there’s a GASD teacher or staff member who has made an impact on your family, tell us about them. Share a message in the comments or nominate them for a GASD Glow Award through the link in @gasd_pa profile. ❤️ Happy World Teacher Day! #GASDisGreat #WarriorWay #GASDisAGreatPlacetoLearn Collage of photos of staff with students and among colleagues with World Teacher Day on the center

There’s something meaningful about seeing a Warrior return to where his journey began. Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding, a 1978 GAHS graduate, visited with our Battlefield FFA students Tuesday, joined by FFA state officers. Secretary Redding shared stories from his time as a GAHS student, including a teacher who encouraged him to continue his education and the impact that encouragement had on the path that followed. The conversation also gave students an opportunity to hear about the future of agriculture, the opportunities FFA can provide, and the importance of developing the skills and leadership needed to make an impact in the industry. I especially enjoyed watching our students hear that story from someone who once sat where they are sitting today. We never know how a teacher’s encouragement, an opportunity or a connection along the way might shape a student’s future. And there was one fun piece of Warrior history our students discovered: Secretary Redding was the 1978 GAHS Prom King. 👑 We’re grateful to Secretary Redding and the FFA state officers for spending time with our students and sharing their experiences. #GASDisGreat #WarriorWay #GASDisAGreatPlacetoLearn FFA students and state officers smile with Dr. Matzner and Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding.

Looking back at this incredible day with our now-seniors, who had the opportunity to step outside the classroom and experience what the world of work can look like through Junior Achievement’s REAL Life program. I’m especially grateful for the community members who gave their time last spring to make this experience possible for our students. Your willingness to share your knowledge and perspective made a difference. Now it’s our juniors’ turn. On Tuesday, October 20, Junior Achievement’s REAL Life is returning to GAHS, and we’re looking for volunteers to help bring the day to life. It’s a meaningful way to spend a day with our students, share your expertise, and help make connections to their future. 🔗 If you’re interested in joining for the day, sign up to volunteer here: https://form.jotform.com/212215942576962. #GASDisGreat #WarriorWay #GASDisAGreatPlacetoLearn Volunteer reads to students with game in front of them.

Every school has stories worth telling. We’re starting with this one. I had the opportunity yesterday to present our very first Warrior Stories That Stick recognitions to GAHS students Markus Cool and Sam Dunlop and technology education teacher Mr. Licharowicz. Cool and Dunlop were recognized by the Builders Association of Adams County in the spring for their work in architectural design. Cool earned first place and the People’s Choice Award, while Sam earned second place. What stands out to me isn’t just the recognition. It’s the creativity, persistence, and problem-solving behind it, along with a dedicated teacher who encouraged these students to keep developing their skills. I’d also like to recognize Class of 2026 graduates Marcus Pritt and Ashley Richwine, who were honored at the event. I’m proud to celebrate your accomplishments and the story behind them. I know there are many more stories like this unfolding across our schools. I look forward to hearing them and recognizing the Warriors who make it possible. Know a Warrior with a story worth telling? Stepping behind the counter as a celebrity scooper was a fun change of pace and a great chance to spend the evening with students, staff and members of our community. The Warrior Way flavor was also a highlight, red velvet ice cream with marshmallow and cookies made for a sweet tribute to our Warrior community. ❤️ Thank you to Mr. G’s for the invitation and for bringing so many people together for a wonderful evening! #GASDisGreat #WarriorWay #GASDisaGreatPlacetoLearn

Preparing for a new school year means learning and growing, too. Through Summer Academy, members of our teaching and professional staff spent time learning, collaborating, and preparing to welcome our Warriors back. From instructional strategies and technology to leadership and collaboration, these learning opportunities give our staff new ideas and tools for their classrooms, schools, and teams. I’m grateful to everyone who invested time in their own professional growth this summer. Let’s go, Warriors! #GASDisGreat #WarriorWay #GASDisAGreatPlacetoLearn

There is so much work that happens behind the scenes to prepare our schools for a new year. This summer, our Facilities team has been putting in countless hours to make sure our buildings are clean, refreshed, and ready to welcome our students and staff. From waxing floors to completing updates and tackling projects, their work makes a difference in every school. Our Information Technology team has been just as busy, preparing the systems and technology that support teaching, learning, and the day-to-day work of our staff. As we look ahead to the 2026–27 school year, I want to recognize these teams for the care, expertise, and dedication they bring to their work. Thank you for all you do to support our schools and our Warriors. Your work truly helps make the Warrior Way possible. 🫶 #GASDisGreat #WarriorWay #GASDisAGreatPlacetoLearn

One of the best parts of preparing for a new school year is welcoming the incredible Warrior staff who are joining our team. I had the opportunity today to welcome our newest professional staff to the Gettysburg Area School District as they began their Warrior journey. Through an orientation, a district tour, and time spent connecting with colleagues, they got a firsthand look at the people, places, and programs that make GASD such a great place to learn and grow. In just a few weeks, they’ll be welcoming students into our classrooms and schools, and I know they’ll make a meaningful impact from day one. Please join me in giving our newest Warriors a warm Warrior welcome! #GASDisGreat #WarriorWay #GASDisAGreatPlacetoLearn

I had the opportunity to stop by the end-of-program Carnival for our Lincoln Elementary and Gettysburg Area Middle School Life Skills classes yesterday, and it was a wonderful reminder of the heart of our Warrior community. From games and face painting to prizes, laughter and smiling faces, the carnival was a joyful celebration of a summer filled with learning, growth, and friendship. It was a pleasure to join Assistant Superintendent Dr. McFarland and GAMS Principal Caywood in celebrating alongside our students and staff. A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated staff and everyone who helped make this such an incredible experience for our Warriors. Your creativity, care, and commitment provided the perfect ending to an outstanding Extended School Year program. 🫶 #GASDisGreat #WarriorWay #GASDisAGreatPlacetoLearn

🎞️The Warrior Archives: Fifty years later, the memories are still worth celebrating. As I saw members of the GAHS Class of 1976 reunite to celebrate their 50-year reunion, I couldn’t help but think about the generations of Warriors who have walked these halls. These photos are more than a glimpse into the past. They’re a reminder that while buildings, technology, and classrooms change, the friendships, traditions, and pride of being a Warrior endure. Congratulations to the Class of 1976 on this remarkable milestone! Thank you for being a part of our story! #GASDisGreat #WarriorWay #GASDisAGreatPlacetoLearn
