We are celebrating the 24th anniversary of 24 Hour Party People with Sale’s new local record store, Gatekeep! Gatekeep will be hosting a pop-up record fair and DJing in the cinema ahead of the screening 🍿

Located in Emporium in Sale, Gatekeep is a new independent record and film store packed with a curated mix of new and preloved Vinyl, CDs, Cassettes and more.

Opening in August this year, they have made their mark for having an exciting curation of physical media and music. What better way to celebrate their arrival than with a film about the musi revolution that changed Manchester forever.

It's been a while, but a new episode of FTG landed this morning.

Gary and I had the great pleasure of visting Jess and Billy @gatekeep.world in Sale, set up after they purchased the stock from Jess' previous 'home', Altrincham's Tasty Records.

Only open for 3 weeks, they have thrown themselves into creating a rather wonderful store in the town's @emporium_m33 .

Amongst their highly ecletic collection were several records which don't seem to be available anywhere else, including the only known recording of a gig by Warsaw, before they became Joy Division, at a pub in Macclesfield.

It was lovely getting to pop into @getfreebookshops Sale today! I've always been a huge supporter of theirs, having been visiting since their early years in @stanleysquaresale !

This shop is truly an important part of the community, and it's epic now having it in @emporium_m33 along with some Sale faves like @giftreceive , @gatekeep.world , and @find.ablez !

Visited the newly opened @gatekeep.world today in Sale inside @emporium_m33 and finally added this classic to the collection.

A defining performance from 1993 that Kurt Cobain was reluctant to do due to other bands treating it as any other gig but with acoustic guitars. By adding covers, strings, and a smattering of self-doubt, Nirvana delivered a truly memorable live performance.

✨ WHAT TO EXPECT

A new independent record and film store packed with a curated mix of new and preloved vinyl, CDs, cassettes, VHS, DVDs, band merch and plenty of harder-to-find gems.

The new store comes from Sale residents Jess and Billy. Some of you might recognise Jess, who previously managed Altrincham’s much-loved Tasty Records and has now taken its stock (plus bought in more) to start a store of her own.

🕙 OPENING HOURS

GATEKEEP’s soft opening is from tomorrow at 10am. It will then be open Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm.

📍 HOW TO FIND

GATEKEEP is on the ground floor of @emporium_m33 (3-7 Tatton Road, Sale M33 7EB). Just head inside, turn right and you’ll spot it!

GATEKEEP is set to be the best place in Sale to rummage for records, rare finds and old-school media. Wishing Jess and Billy huge success with the new opening!

I don't talk about my record shop a lot but after yesterday's incredible @recordstoreday I thought it'd be a great opportunity to introduce you to Jess, Peter and Amelia and let you know some facts about my other enterprise!

- I started this shops journey in 2013 with two crates of old records and have built it up into one of the best Indie record shops in the UK

- Jess has been the manager for a long time now and is also a DJ, she's made the shop what it is today. I'm very thankful she's there and she does such a good job of looking after the place while I'm fixing old cars.

- Amelia started off as a Saturday girl but her role has become vital to the shop, her music knowledge is nuts for her age and surprises a lot of old men who come into the shop looking for something obscure!

- Peter has joined us very recently and brings a wealth of knowledge from his time at HMV in Hong Kong! He is in charge of getting us the best stock and making sure the shop grows to be even bigger and better than it is now.

- We've won a few awards for retail over the years and despite it being incredibly difficult to run a business in the UK at the moment my little shop goes from strength to strength

- Tasty Records is based in Altrincham WA14 in South Manchester, there's some Tasty Classics merchandise on the shelves there too so if you're a vinyl, CD or cassette fan it's well worth making the trip to see it. Sometimes you might catch me there!
