SAVE THE SOUTH AFRICAN FILM INDUSSTRY🇿🇦

🎥 What’s Causing the Job Crisis?
📉 1. Government Film Incentive Has Stopped Working Properly

South Africa has a Film & TV Production Incentive designed to attract both local and foreign productions by offering rebates on qualifying expenses.

The idea is this should create jobs and grow the industry.
DTIC

However, the department responsible (DTIC) has reportedly stopped approving new applications or holding adjudication meetings — the key steps needed for productions to move forward with funding. This has caused:

Productions to stall or delay
Workers left unpaid
Job opportunities drying up
Projects shifting to other countries with more reliable incentives

SA Music News Magazine
Because productions can’t get their rebates approved, many local films aren’t being made — which shrinks the whole job market.

🚶‍♂️ National Protests Reflect Deep Industry Stress
Thousands of film and TV professionals (actors, directors, writers, crew, etc.) have organised national marches in Cape Town and Pretoria under the banner
“SAVE SA FILM JOBS” to demand that the
government fix the incentive and save the industry.

These protests are happening because the industry has contracted sharply and many workers can’t find consistent work.
