I was always told high school would fly by and though I’m nervous but ready to graduate, it never registered in my head that my time on the West Deptford track team would come to an end as well. Which I could never be ready for.

Over the past four years of winter and spring track my coaches have taught me more than just throwing. They not only taught me discipline and control, they made me believe in myself more and more everyday, building confidence and letting me express my emotions whenever I needed to. Believing in me and pushing me to be the best I possibly can. Seeing potential in me even when I couldn’t see it in myself.

Through the tears, attitude, and laughs they stuck by my side and built such a bond that could never be broken. Shaping me into the person I am today, which I could have never achieved without them. The long meets with triple fouls, rain, dance parties, and screaming at me not to foul a bad throw pains me to realize we can never relive those moments again. But makes me so grateful I get to have them as such meaningful memories.

The only reason I knew when I PR’d is when I heard my coaches scream “YES.” They cheered for me so loud and got way more excited when I succeeded than I did. When I would feel down and say “but I can do better” or “I should’ve done better” they would remind me how amazing I am and how far I’ve come.

Thank you to my teammates, coaches and grandmother for supporting me and being my light through every dark moment. Thank you for the meets, bus rides, conversations, and inside jokes that will last forever. You were not only my inspirations, but became my forever family that I couldn’t be more grateful for. I love you and thank you so much for everything West Deptford Track.
