Bad Man don’t wear curls!

A series of photos titled “Before Time Change Us”
While we still having the freedom of self expression, the freedom to express ourselves through our roots, style and culture.

The first two shots set back ah yard, with the man dem playing a round of dominoes. Definitely not a quiet bored game or for the weak hearted.
So if you don’t like noise this isn’t for you.

Dominoes is a highly intense, entertaining and emotional game, serving as a social glue in the community from when the #windrushgeneration came over. Bringing neighbours together, weather on the Road corner, the corner bar, backyards, or “dead yards”

The games combining intense strategy, nuff banter, bad words, storytelling, deep camaraderie, jokes and laughter.

The Jamaican obsession with the game runs deep. Games are vibrant, and loud. Fiercely competitive. Not just players, but like Columbo working out every move before it is made. Priding themselves on memory, deduction ( reading the game to know what the opponents hold), and then standing up and delivering the dramatic, thunderous and intimidating slams, which we as kids could hear upstairs in our bedroom, The game would be accompanied with reggae music, yard food and live debates.

It’s a time, a safe space to unwind from a days, or weeks work. To discuss political events, and share life’s lessons.

So if you’re brave enough, and want to have a game, just listen out for the noise of Reggae music, nuff debating and swearing.

2025 taught us how a game can gather people.

Dune of Whispers moved across grounds, adapting to places, people, and choices. Every session sharpened the strategy. Every space changed the rules without announcing them.

What stayed constant was the care.
For the experience.
For the people inside it.

Food was always part of the ritual.
We ate together.
We talked.
We listened before and after the game.

What happened around the table mattered as much as what happened inside the experience.

Thank you to every host, collaborator, cook, and participant who helped build this year with care.

We’re carrying the whispers forward.

Found this wonderful cafe in Somers Town for a nice and delicious hot chocolate.

So good value too - and very hot (not like most cafes, comes warm and almost cold 😀 even when I asked for extra hot please!!). Thank you also for the wonderful service 👍

It's Algerian, so will definitely go back and try their Algerian dishes!

In Paris, the Syrians and the Algerians take care of me at the Rose de Damas and the Mosque de Paris cafes. Today, in London, I've had a warm welcome from an Algerian family that made their way here via Paris. Date energy balls - homemade.
