January 15, 1993 — the day a legend was born. One who would become my big brother, bestie, personal comedian, partner-in-shenanigans, volleyball & ping pong coach/partner, confidante, and obviously— too good for this world. Gone entirely too soon in my opinion, but not without leaving behind a meaningful and unforgettable legacy.

My friends will know you. My husband will know you. My children will know you. My neighbors will know you. The world will continue to know you. And they will all have no choice but to love you. I will speak your name as often as I can. I will make jokes more and take life less seriously. I will hug and kiss more. I will hold on to memories more. I will laugh more. I will show more compassion and grace to unlikely candidates. I will prioritize making time & memories with those I love, and I will spare no expense to help those in need.

It comforts me to know that I showed you how much I loved and appreciated you during those last few weeks. You knew, without a shadow of a doubt that I was there for you. But… it was easy for me to do that because I didn’t know whether I was going to lose you and absolutely nothing else mattered.

The fact is, none of us know whether we’re going to lose each other at any point in time. I know that now more than I ever thought I knew it before. We gotta show that love and appreciation while we’re given the opportunity. Now. We HAVE to.

I miss you Gbo Dweeb Cake, G-Dub Faw, GW, Carson Stevens, GDove, GboSmiley, GB, Bub, Bro, Bae, Love, Sugar— Gbolu.

From now on I will know January 15th as Legacy Day.

Today would have been your 30th birthday. I wish you would have got a chance to see this day. You were a great friend and great person with a pure heart. Glad we got a chance to hang out one last time in summer of 2019. Those memories and laughs will last forever! Rest in peace my friend until we meet again 🙏🏽🕊️

December 15th God took my brother away from me and I don’t know what to do….

Gbolu was someone that I, as the little cousin could always come to, whether it was for good advice, a really good laugh, or just to talk his head off about stuff I thought was so cool at the time, that he probably wasn’t that interested in. But he would indulge me regardless, and supported me in whatever dream I had. He was the kindest, most patient, funny, easygoing, and friendly person. Gbolu shaped a lot of how I saw the world at a young age. He taught me that sometimes it was okay to laugh at yourself, that it was okay to pursue a dream even if others didn’t believe in it, because you’d always have your family in your corner, and they would always support you. Gbolu, I had just gotten to the age where I could talk to you about real life things like relationships, life, school, the state of the world, we were just getting to that point where I wasn’t just confiding in you but you could ask me for advice too, a relationship I was so proud to have achieved with you my brother… and now it’s just gone… and I’m still wrapping my head around this.

I’ve asked God why you man. So many times I’ve asked, because out of anyone in this world, you didn’t deserve to go like this…

I just want you to know how much I appreciated and valued our time together. You were such a pure human being and you brought so much peace to my life. I remember on our first date you told that I was doing great in life and that I needed some older friends to remind me that I was actually ahead of the game. You always uplifted me and reassured me of things. I loved the way you always used my name in a sentence and I love how much you enjoyed being around me. It didn’t matter how many days we spent together, you were never ready for me to go. You never made me feel like I was too much because to you, I was everything. I got to tell you how much you meant to me but I just wish that I had one more hug from you or to see your bright smile light up one more time! You were everything to me Gbolu, you were more than enough. Thank you God for allowing someone like you to walk into my life especially when I needed it the most. I got to spend the last few months of your life with you and those memories I will cherish until the end of time. I hope to see you in my dreams Gbolu, I love you and I will miss you forever💙
