Because of YOU, we can stand guard for our sporting dog traditions and make our voices heard across South Carolina. Last week, the SCSDA was proud to sponsor a team at the South Carolina Southern Sporting Classic (sporting clays fundraiser) hosted by the South Carolina Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus and the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation. This event brings sportsmen and women, legislators, and conservation partners together to build relationships, discuss issues affecting our outdoor traditions, and ensure our community has a seat at the table. Being present and involved is an important part of protecting our sporting dog heritage! Spent the evening celebrating the 79th birthday of the United States Air Force and reconnecting with a part of my life that will always be with me. What made the night special was the people — new friendships I’ve built, along with familiar faces from my military years and from my time after retirement around Joint Base Charleston, now Joint Base Lindsey Graham. It was especially meaningful running into Airmen whose paths crossed mine during my time at Airman Leadership School and as a Military Training Instructor. Seeing where life has taken everyone, sharing stories, and reminiscing about those years was a great reminder that the impact of service doesn’t end when you take the uniform off. The Air Force gave me much more than a career. It gave me relationships, lessons, experiences, and a foundation that continues to shape who I am. Great night. Great people. Great memories. Rep. @GBrewer04 lays it out well in his Post and Courier piece on H.3858. For those saying this reform shifts the burden or hurts local services, he addresses it head-on. South Carolina had the highest boat property taxes in the country on something used part of the year, and it was driving boat owners out of state. Around 80% of boats over $120,000 were being registered elsewhere, leaving smaller boat owners stuck carrying the load. His point is simple. The old system wasn’t working, and the numbers don’t match the criticism. Today, we thank the champions of both pieces of legislation and their teamwork in seeing H.3858 signed into law. Governor McMaster has officially signed H.3858 into law, cutting the nation’s highest boat property taxes nearly in half and eliminating outboard engine titling and double taxation. This didn’t happen because of politics. It happened because people spoke up. From boat ramps to small businesses, South Carolinians made their voices heard, and lawmakers listened. That’s how you cut the nation’s highest boat property taxes. We are grateful for the leadership of Rep. @gbrewer04, Sen. @stephengoldfinch, countless legislators, and @govhenrymcmaster for seeing this through. One boat. One bill. One loud voice.
