🚀 MISSION DEBRIEF: EXPEDITION 01

Mission Area: Springerville, Arizona
Supporting Partners: Frontier Sciences & Round Valley School District

Objectives:
✅ Deliver STEM outreach to local elementary students
✅ Introduce early algebra concepts to fourth-grade classrooms
✅ Showcase the Voyager Space Simulator and inspire curiosity about space exploration
✅ Host a community stargazing event at Lyman Lake
✅ Represent Grand Canyon University beyond campus

Mission Summary:

This past week, members of the GCU Astronomy Club embarked on our first expedition beyond university grounds. Working alongside Frontier Sciences, we traveled to Springerville, Arizona, where we volunteered with the Round Valley School District. There, we taught fourth-grade students foundational algebra concepts and provided hands-on experiences with the Voyager Space Simulator, encouraging the next generation of explorers, scientists, and innovators.

The following evening, we hosted a public stargazing event at Lyman Lake, sharing views of the night sky with members of the local community and fostering a greater appreciation for astronomy and science.

Before returning home, our team made a stop in Flagstaff, reflecting on a week filled with education, outreach, service, and exploration.

Mission Status: SUCCESSFUL ✅

As the Astronomy Club’s first off-campus expedition, this trip marked an exciting step forward in our mission to promote STEM education, community engagement, and a passion for discovery both within and beyond GCU.

End Debrief. Preparing for the next mission. 🌌
