POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A BREED APART played @revuecinema yesterday, marking the third time I’ve been able to see old faces, micro analyze my own facial expressions, and re-examine the themes of this patient period piece. Parenthood, coming of age, struggle, community, and perseverance.

My thanks to @davidalafontaine and Adam Belanger, the writer directors who brought me into the fold, along with @barkervision and @jessegriffithscasting. Cannot overstate how much I love watching the performances from the entire cast each time I see it.

A second round of thanks to @revuecinema for screening this balanced slow-burn. A BREED APART will be playing from Oct. 9th - 16th @imaginecarlton. If you want to support Canadian films, or see moi on the silver screen, don’t be a stranger.

A BREED APART screened at Scotiabank Theatre this past weekend at @canfilmfest and it was a be-sight to hold, and that’s on a second watch for me.

Written and directed by @davidalafontaine and Adam Belanger, it follows the hardships of an English cattle farmer and his 9 year old son while living in 1850’s Canada. It’s a story about fatherhood, grief, being a neighbour, the struggle of building, and relying on others when the going gets rough. At least those are some of my takeaways on this most recent watch.

Shout out to @wayne.burns whose film “EEL” played alongside A Breed Apart, a harsh look at the underbelly out east. Beautiful cinematography, with pace and tension.

It was a wonderful experience, and I’m reminded of what an incredible opportunity this film was during shooting and still is long after. So much talent on screen and behind the camera. BIG THANKS to everyone who came out to see it, and especially to my loved ones who came out just to see me. The support was appreciated.

Being any kind of artist, be it performer, creative, it can be hard to recognize your own work. Even your favourite song can sound different on the wrong day. There can be a lot of doubt in yourself, in what you were trying to accomplish for a project, and sometimes you can be a perfectionist who picks apart far too much, not even leaving crumbs for yourself to snack on.
After the screening was done, I was told by multiple people to REALLY be proud of your work, and be proud of what you’ve been apart of. I knew this opportunity was a big one from the start, but those words mean the world, and serve as a friendly reminder to take those flowers when they come, and make sure you give yourself some too. I’m very proud to be apart of this project, and I’m glad more people got to see it. Here’s to more eyes 🥂

Last week our Toronto students got a serious behind-the-scenes look at cinematography and lighting 🎥✨

We were lucky to have Executive Producer Zac Reaney-Barker from @gearshift_productions join us, alongside Director of Photography Martin Wojtunik and Gaffer Artur Vetstein, for an in-depth camera and lighting demo. From shaping light to breaking down camera setups, it was a hands-on session packed with industry insight and practical knowledge.

Huge thanks to Zac, Martin, and Artur for sharing their expertise and giving our students a taste of life on set.

This past weekend, I had the luxury of family support, receiving positive comments face to face on my own work, and of getting to see myself on the big screen for my biggest role yet. Reconnecting with the cast and crew of “A Breed Apart” was a lovely time, and watching it for the first time was immensely satisfying. The hard work from all departments and every role really shows on screen.

I was again reminded of how many talented people I got to work with in one room. These performers bring their best. And it’s just crazy how smooth the shooting went, everyone was so friendly.

CHEERS to all involved, thanks to Cinefest Sudbury and all the locals for giving the film the stage, and filling up the seats. I hope more get to see this. 🥂
