Today and Tomorrow are my last shifts behind the bar here at Nostalgia Room, and it felt fitting to make a post as this has been a huge facet of my life. I can say without a doubt that this has been one of the harder chapters of my adult life. Helping open an entire portion of a business is not for the faint of heart, but I feel grateful for the opportunity to take my 10+ years of coffee experience and put it to the test. From build-out to equipment selection/buying/repairing, menu/recipe creation/development, creating operational processes, setting high standards of quality, training employees, and more than I can even list; it’s been incredible to see how much of it I was able to take in stride and apply to this beautiful establishment.
I feel proud of pouring myself into this place, but it did come at a cost (for better or for worse) putting a lot of my personal life on the back burner. I’m excited to get back to myself, the people that I love, and find a better balance for my mental health. I’m sure a lot of small business folk can relate! 🤪
The friendships I’ve made and seeing how the community has embraced this little shop (in my hometown of all places) is something that will forever hold a place in my heart.
Last but not least, Thank you Emily for bringing me on and helping build your dream aka this little slice of heaven just east of Mass St. It’s been a wild ride full of memories I’ll never forget 🥲
If you’ve stopped by the shop to see me and support what I’ve been up to, I’m eternally grateful for you. If you haven’t yet, I hope you still do and support this small but very mighty business. 💫🌹

Another action item package is here and it’s a dream come true for our bookworm fans that appreciate stellar penmanship. 🖊️

If you have yet to visit Lawrence quintessential community bookstore The Raven, don’t worry, we’re bringing it to you. The cherished worker-owned bookstore has pitched in a copy of “She Come By It Natural”, Stephen King’s “You Like It Darker” and “The Art of Fantasy”.

In addition to a t-shirt and a photo history of the folks who have kept The Raven going for decades, we also have The Lawrence Songbook, an incredibly heartfelt collaboration of artists transcribing their favorite tunes for others to learn.

And somehow, if that weren’t enough, we have the legendary trio Ebony Tusks contributing copies of their critically acclaimed “Heal Thyself” along with stickers and “HDF” on 7”.

Along with lead vocal Marty Hillard’s poeticism on each track, we have some early access a sweater and beanie from his upcoming clothing to top it all off.

Come and get it this Friday a Third Place Lounge! 🛋️

Last week was a blast. So much fun spending a few days playing shows w/ our homies + @highdiverecords labelmates @ebonytusks, culminating in an incredible day/night @missioncreek.

Thank you to all who came out to any of our shows, cut loose or bought any merch. Both bands appreciate it immensely.

Shout out to the fine folks @farewellkcmo , @subsect + @missioncreek (@iowacitygabes / @riversidetheatreiowa ) for hosting our two projects.

I don't see myself ever growing tired of watching Ebony Tusks perform their song "Schuyler." Its industrial, metallic stomp mirrors the coldness with which American police often approach civilians. The local trio has declared itself a hardcore band before and this rally cry for humanity is all the evidence they need.
