Connecting people and sharing materials in the collective field of glass education.

Last October I went on a grant writing rampage and of the six opportunities I pushed forward, two came back positively. (One was internal to UW; this one was external.) This support feels especially empowering as Emily Leach @emilymleach and Ben Orozco @bexoro and I round the corner on closing out the second year of what has been some of the most rewarding work I’ve done in my career with two of the best teammates one could ask for.

In my UW hat, I have a lot of thoughts on the 60th anniversary of this program and the birth of American Studio Glass. I am incredibly grateful to @centerforcraft for this vote of confidence that we as a field might be able to think expansively about glass and craft histories, particularly in light of the narratives that often aren’t heard or teased out amidst the dominance of the 1962 narrative. I look forward to the next season of GEEX and hope you’ll support @geexglass as we look towards a third year of programming!!!

"Expanded Glass Histories"
.
"Expanded Glass Histories" is a video podcast of conversations between scholars researching pre-1962 histories of glass through trade, labor, science, and industry. Featuring contemporary glass artists with overlapping interests, this podcast series is a decolonizing effort to expand the meaning of "conventional craft glass."
