In 2018 my identical twin brother was involved in a high speed collision, hitting a telephone pole going over 100mph. It took the first responders over an hour to cut him out of the vehicle before he was airlifted to UCLA Medical Center. He broke almost every bone in his body and had a subdural brain bleed with severe memory loss, but he survived. And miraculously, he recovered over the next few months to 100%. At the time I was very new to painting, but decided to put my feelings into action. The rabbit represents his white Chrysler 300, the rattlesnake represents the telephone pole, and the magician’s hat represents the inexplicable force that allowed him to survive such a horrific event. 7 years and many paintings later, I decided to revisit the same concept. This time with more experience and more perspective. Happy belated birthday, Kyle! Lucky to still have you.
