Waiting is forbidden. ممنوع الانتظار

the waiting to be discovered.
to be rescued.
to be invited.
to be chosen.

for a long time, I thought that was part of the process.
submit the work. wait.
apply. wait.
hope someone sees you, validates you, opens a door.

but somewhere along the way, that shifted.

I stopped waiting for something to happen, and started doing instead.
building, painting, reaching out, creating my own spaces, my own conversations, my own momentum.

this feature by Gemma White on equality in art holds many important conversations, but for me, it also reflects something very real and personal, the quiet shift from waiting to claiming your place.

Jumping on the bandwagon as #2016 was a good year ✨

1. Harry and I interviewed @ritaora in her hotel room on Valentines Day
2. Celebrated the iconic @pritimalik’s 30th birthday. Shots, a chair and a pool.
3. My first big girl photoshoot with @harpersbazaararabia on a VERY hot day
4. Caught up with @krisjenner and had my face blurred on an ep of KUWTK
5. Launched @92smooth as the Content Director in May ‘16
6. Had the best house parties at @jamiemcneill89 and @harry_onair apartment they could not afford
7. Went to Macchu Pichu with @fenelope_prize without altitude sickness tablets
8. Stayed strapped in Rio while the Olympics were on with mum
9. Scored an interview with @willsmith for Suicide Squad
10. The beginning of a beautiful friendship with @lailahrasheed
11. Won Ultimate Media Personality at the @cosmomiddleeast awards surrounded by an awesome squad
12. Asked @bobgeldof_ if he liked my new LuMee phone case, he said no.
13. Shot an ad for @luckyvoicedubai with Harry. Rode a camel. Cried.
14. Had the BEST shoot with my fave gals at @okmiddleeast!
15. Begged @giulianarancic to tell me who ‘Mr Perfect’ is in her book!
16. Wore the most wonderful gowns at Dubai International Film Festival thanks to @kierapurdue and @lucystickyginger
17. The man who made it all happen for us! @stevesmithesg
18. Took my bro 10 years to visit me in Dubai but we made it happen in ’16! deanjprice
19. @kellycyndrowski took me under her wing and taught me how to ‘adult’. PepperCat took care of both of us!
20. Spent so much time with @harry_onair that we started to dress alike in the studio

#DUBAI 🇦🇪 Welcome to my new local: @tattudubai
Walking into the Tattu launch party on Thursday was like stepping back into Dubai 2010. I bumped into some of the most fabulous and funniest Dubai legends of all time, including @farahandrews and @gemma_was_here (love those shoes); @simondritchie was swinging his thing on the dancefloor; the local Culinary Cognoscenti joined us for a few champers; Ernest and @laurabuckwell documented and directed proceedings with aplomb, and @lyndseysteven had another fun birthday bash. GOT’s Jason Mamao was the star guest.

UK export Tattu is in Ciel Dubai Marina, Vignette Collection by IHG, now the world’s tallest hotel (taking the title from Dubai’s less glitzy Gevora Hotel), and it’s split across three levels:
Þ   TATTU Restaurant & Bar (Level 74)
Þ   TATTU Sky Pool (Level 76)
Þ   TATTU Sky Lounge & Terrace (Level 81)

Navigating the celebration wasn’t easy, there was some queuing for lifts and traffic congestion in Dubai Marina meant some didn’t even make it. But those who persevered, had a sky-high blast.

FYI: The name Tattu is a portmanteau of ‘Tattoo’ (inspiring the interiors) and ‘Tatau’ (an ancient Far Eastern term meaning ‘to make a mark’). Has this chain made its mark on you yet?
