Bit of a late one but yes…. I did! I worked my dream job in the country I was born and raised! I met some amazing people and now have friends for life, a husband and a new addition ❤️. Blackcake will always have a place in my heart. So please swipe away and have a look see 🥰 Slide 2 and 3 capture the beautiful wig I created for one of Bennys throwback looks, slide 4 shows one of the divers/stuntys who’s back piece I created and managed to attach and it not come off after doing what felt like 73 dives of a high ass cliff. 🤣🤣🤣. All in all even though Jamaica is my home, it took working there to realise how beautiful my island really is! #workinginparadise #blackcake #hair #makeup #film #tv

Gemma Aboagye #CreditWhereItsDue #Collaborators @gemma__ama

After all the design, fabric buying, costume cutting, making, fitting, breakdown and aging is done, the most important part of the process happens – ensuring it goes on camera right. Gemma was one of the two key Costume Principal standbys on Black Cake – the people responsible for making sure the costume is worn the way is should and that the continuity is maintained.

Gemma has 7 years in costume for tv & film, she has worked on some great shows in the past and is working towards a career as a costume supervisor. Gemma is a vibrant and enthusiastic part of the team, she lights up a room and brings a spark to your day, it was energizing to have her on board for Black Cake.

I asked Gemma about her favourite costumes for the show, she said they were:

1-3: "The white 60s dress and jacket Mrs Quintrell (Rebecca Calder) is wearing when we first meet her (ep 2). The simplicity of the look with the timeless accessories makes this one of my favourite looks."

4-6: "The vibrant orange and brown dress with the brown belt Edwina (Leah Walker) wears at the boarding house party (ep 2). The shoes especially deserve a special mention for how beautiful they were."

7: "I loved Covey's wedding dress just for how iconic is it and the detailing in the dress, Mia Isaac looked amazing in it"

8: "Another favourite look is Covey's school uniform for nostalgia is gave me. The uniforms worn in Jamaica in the late 60s remind me of the school uniforms worn in Ghana. It is also such an innocent look before Covey's life as she knew it changes so dramatically."

9-10: And this is Gemma, enjoying Jamaican TV life with our team!

this time last year i moved across the world to spend six long months filming… there were a lot of ups and downs, and it definitely wasn’t easy, but it was worth it. now i can finally share it!

grateful for all the people who dedicated their time and energy to this show — from every freezing night shoot to every melting hot beach day. grateful for all the friends i made, who made me feel at home in a foreign country. this was a once in a lifetime experience. but it doesn’t belong to me anymore… it belongs to the people watching :)

now you can watch @blackcakehulu on @hulu in the US and @disneyplus in the UK/Canada!

so much love 💛🇯🇲🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Ali Bremner #CreditWhereItsDue #Collaborators

Ali was one of the two key Costume Principal standbys on Black Cake – the people responsible for making sure the costume is worn right on camera and the continuity is maintained. Without a standby doing their job right, everything the rest of us do doesn’t matter if it goes on camera wrong.

Ali has 14 years in costume for tv & film, she applied to join the Black Cake team after seeing an ad on a Facebook costume group, sent her CV in (almost too late), interviewed over a poor FaceTime connection chat (nailed it), got the job & flew out to Jamaica two weeks later. I couldn't have been happier that she joined the team.

Ali looked after Covey (with colleague Gemma), she picked two of her costumes as some of her faves from the show (in her words):
1 The innocence & playfulness a child that age should have, but not something that we saw much of in the show. I loved this look. We first filmed it on a sunny (but not too hot day in Jamaica) with Covey, Bunny & Gibbs.
2 This photo was taken on 1 of the worst nights I’ve ever had on set - the rain, coldness & mud was extreme.… I threw out so much of my own clothes & kit after that night of the train…. But Mia’s smile made it all ok. This photo was taken at the end of the a very long night, of a girl who lay in the mud & wetness whilst absolutely freezing, but still managed to smile throughout it all. What an absolute superstar. It was a pleasure to look after her.
3-9 Key team: all brilliant, wonderful people and all tagged where possible!

Ali: My favourite thing from Black Cake, was the people I met & the friends I made over the 7 months that we spent together. The Cardiff Crew are a lot like the Scottish & I was so lucky to be taken in & made to feel loved & appreciated.
