CULTURE NIGHT AT STIÚIDEO FIA 🎬

This Friday, 18 September, we’re opening the doors of Stiúideo Fia for Culture Night.

6–9pm | Everybody welcome | Free

If you’ve ever wondered how stop-motion actually works, come in and have a look behind the scenes.

Come and see the puppets, see the sets, play with puppets, try some animation and talk to me and Gemma about all things stop-motion.

Whether you’re a filmmaker, an animator, a student, a parent, a child, or simply curious about how these little worlds are made — you’re very welcome.

No experience needed. No booking needed. Just come in, have a look around and play.

📍 Stiúideo Fia, Tír an Fhia, Conamara
📅 Friday 18 September

10 Days ago a bunch of enthusiastic artists descended on Stiúideo Fia to take part in the -
Pota Café - 2 Day Stop Motion Challenge.
We met early in the heart of Connemarra in Diarmuid’s beautiful café. He talked to all the contestants about Pota, community, language and sustainability.
I can’t thank Diarmuid enough for jumping on to my mad band wagon.

We had coffee and wonderful food and when fed and ready to go we left for Stiúideo Fia. ..

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend Frame Fest as part of the Comhar Gaeilge Animation Residency 2026 in Galway, Ireland.

I am truly grateful and honored to have had this experience and to have learned from the amazing professionals and people I met throughout the festival.

I want to give a huge thank you to @ardan_ie for supporting the residency and making this trip possible, and to Julie and Kathryn for being there with us and making the journey even more special.

I also want to thank @trs_cityoffilm , and especially Jordi, for trusting me and giving me the chance to take part in this opportunity.

Finally, thank you to Lino from Potsdam and Neel in Mumbai for the friendship and great moments that we shared. And, of course, thank you to my parents for all their support along the way.

I left with lots of new knowledge, inspiration and motivation!

I had to share this!!!
This is the FrameFest Award
An Fia Órga - The Golden Deer

This was designed and sculpted by
@saoirse_whelan.

I can safely say and everyone in the studio especially @gemmamodelmaker would agree these were NOT easy to make.

BUT look at them and compare
Digital rendering v real thing.

I have to say I am very lucky to have such talent in the studio.

This stuff is hard, but is made easy with lovely beautiful people around you.

FrameFest this weekend!!

🏆 THE OFFICIAL FRAME FEST 2026 AWARDS 🏆

You can hear I am delighted with them!!

We’re all delighted to reveal the four official Frame Fest awards for 2026 — celebrating brilliant stop-motion films, extraordinary craft, audience favourites and animation as Gaeilge.

🎬 BEST STOP-MOTION
The Frame Fest award for the outstanding stop-motion film of the festival.

🛠 BEST CRAFT
Celebrating the incredible hands-on craft behind stop-motion — puppets, sets, props, fabrication, animation and all the tiny details that bring a world to life.

🧡 AUDIENCE AWARD
This one is decided by you. Watch the films, pick your favourite and cast your vote during Frame Fest.

☘️ TG4 AWARD – BEST IRISH STOP-MOTION
Presented by TG4, celebrating outstanding Irish stop-motion storytelling.

And yes… the awards themselves have been made here at Stiúideo Fia. Because at a stop-motion festival, even the trophies should be handmade. 👀🏆
