Bilingual Vietnamese-English Childrens books & more!
Increasing diversity and inclusion one board book at a time ❤️

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Many thanks to everyone who came out to the @occhildrensbookfest this weekend. The idea for our Viet Corner started two years ago when @gemmas.library, @alicetrinhwrites, and @storytimewithcal participated in the festival and envisioned a fun space where families and book readers could discover Vietnamese children’s books.

This year, we made that dream a reality. It was special to make a space that celebrates our stories, culture, and voices in children’s literature alongside @heydaisyd who debuted her first children’s book called, ‘The Girl and the Water Buffalo.”

Thank you to everyone who stopped by and supported our work. We are showing the next generation what it means to amplify meaningful stories.

If you believe in making space for more diverse stories, follow and share your favorite authors in the comments.

Vu Lan is coming in August! For those who don’t know: Vu Lan is a Vietnamese Buddhist holiday honoring mothers and ancestors, a time to reflect on the sacrifices of parents and grandparents, and to say thank you while we still can. 🙏💛

This year it’s got me thinking about a different kind of gift for my mom. Not flowers. Not a card.

It’s making sure my kids can understand and confidently say “con thương bà ngoại” (I love grandma) 🥹

Somewhere between soccer practice, school pickup, and bedtime stories in English, I noticed my kids reaching less and less for Vietnamese. And I get it; it happens so quietly you don’t notice until it’s already fading.

So I made this. Our little bilingual alphabet, side by side, English and Tiếng Việt, so learning both never feels like a chore. Just something fun on the wall they see every day.

Because their mother tongue is also their grandmother’s tongue. And their great-grandmother’s.

This Vu Lan, I’m not just honoring where I came from. I’m making sure my kids can still get there too.

One of my favorite things about this community is how many of us started the exact same way: As parents searching for books where our children could see themselves, their families, their language, and their culture.

And when we couldn’t find enough of those stories, we decided to create them. That’s why this community feels like family to me. We may tell different stories, but we’re all working toward the same goal: helping children feel seen, valued, and proud of who they are.

I’m so grateful to be building alongside these incredible creators and sharing this journey together.

Who are your favorite diverse children’s book authors or creators? Drop their names in the comments, I want this list to keep growing. ❤️📚

Finally holding the 5th book I’ve illustrated — and a totebag I designed 🥹
This new book is all about home — filled with cozy scenes and tiny details on every page. I truly loved working on this one🏠✨

And the totebag? It’s based on a tet board game — such a fun concept, and I’m so honored I got to bring it to life through illustration🫶

So thankful and honored to keep growing with @gemmas.library 🩷
Thank you for always supporting my artwork and giving me the chance to be part of such exciting projects 🥺❤️

June is the month of celebration for these two lovely girls, Gemma and Mila🩷💜

I just finished this illustration as a little birthday gift—belated, but made with lots of love.
Happy birthday to both of you! 🎂🎉
Hope your days are filled with love, stories, giggles, and magic 🌻🥳 @gemmas.library
