Why is it that you never hear about the successful teen mothers?

Going up, I dealt with a lot of shame. When my grandmother found out that I became pregnant, she stopped speaking to me for over a year and that broke my heart.

I thought I was inherently, broken, little that I know that I was suffering a manic episode, and that the reason I became pregnant was because of the hypersexuality. This is exactly why mental health matters.

What a lot of people don’t know is that many of us with bipolar disorder/ADHD struggle with suicide ideation. That daughter, everyone shamed me for actually became a anchor to this world.

All I knew was trauma, at home, at school, and my neighborhood, but within her, I found something different…. I found true love.

Not only did she turn my life around, but she became my biggest teacher.

I had to unlearn, and relearn everything about parenting. How to stand up not only for myself before her. How to admit when I’m wrong, and to break the generational curse of being my child’s manager, but instead being her advisor.

It’s quite obvious that children do not learn, but you telling them what to do, but they learn by observing you.

My daughter and I grew up together and we learned so much. Because of her I ended up landing jobs at fortune 500 companies. Went back to school, and decided to persue my dreams.

She has given me more than strength, but the courage to do things despite the fear.

Thank you @wendyamara and team for having me at the powerful YES MUJER event!

Here goes nothing! My story did not break me, the layoff revealed my purpose.

Trigger Warning Vulnerability

I have been saying no to podcasts not because I lack wisdom but because imposter syndrome and ADHD schemas whisper lies of inferiority and incompetence. Those lies were planted in trauma from my home my neighborhood my classrooms my workplaces and becoming a teen mother in a world that judges without asking questions.

Sometimes I grieve what could have been. I wish my parents had known the signs. I wish I had received help sooner. I think often if I had support for bipolar disorder and ADHD earlier maybe I would be a lawyer by now. People said that about me since childhood because I was always defending others. I hated bullying because I knew that pain. I loved school. I still do. I wish I had the money to return and fund my education because learning has always been my sanctuary.

I climbed the corporate ladder to Netflix and instead of fulfillment I found depression. My daughter became sick. I was laid off. And in that collapse I faced my truth. My purpose is not titles. My purpose is educating and advocating for my community and bringing what lives in the dark into the light for justice and order.

People say I look like I have it all together. I do not. I am human and I refuse to hide. Vulnerability is power. My story holds medicine. I say think critically and question everything because sometimes the voice tearing us down is not our higher self. It is the echo of observational knowledge the conditioning of a world that failed to see us clearly.

So I finally said yes. Yes to truth. Yes to being seen. Yes to the rooms that once scared me. Thank you for holding me as I step fully into this work. Thank you @christineolivia_ for inviting me.
