Well winter break is over and I've been back in Bozeman for over a week now. While home in California, I went to the beach several times, attended a workshop by @chrisburkard and took a couple trips to Tahoe and Sequoia. Here's one more shot from my trip with @genericjared to Lake Tahoe. We started hiking at about 5am this particular morning. It was still dark out and we were hoping to get to the top of Roundtop Mountain before sunrise. For a while, we were following a well beaten snow covered trail. Then about a mile in, it vanished and we began our trek through knee deep snow until we were on a ridge line. It was too dark and foggy to see the peaks around so we used google maps to head in the general direction of the mountain. After some time, it became lighter out but the white out did not let up. We kept pushing forward despite our original doubts that this would be worth it. Finally, we spotted the saddle between Roundtop and another mountain. I saw a little bit of color in the distance so I raced to the top. I walked out to edge of the saddle and was treated to a spectacular display of light! Light rays were shooting out in all directions. Unfortunately it only lasted a few minutes before getting cloudy again. We decided to continue to the top of the peak anyway, which required some serious climbing with an ice axe and crampons. It was too windy and cold so we quickly left the summit and made it back to the car. It was a pretty crazy adventure but totally worth it for the 5 minutes of epic light we saw.
