POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Creative expression, storytelling, and space as an act of care. Sometimes life is mad cool. Sometimes we take the broken pieces, cry on it, stir it up, and plaster them into something that makes the most beautifulestest sense possible. And sometimes we get to celebrate it all with community and loved ones around.

What a beautiful creative process, from applying, to the evening pictured. Thank you to @natasha.paige for organizing this all so so well, thanks to @arewefreelance for capturing these pictures, so on point, and thank you to @ppsne for opportunity and intention behind this gallery.

Most specialestest thank you to God for the tools to create, and the love He surrounds me with that makes it all feel so worth it. To my sisters in grief: being a survivor is lifelong, I’ll choose the fight to uplift our voices for the rest of my life — thank you so much for trusting me to tell your stories. Shoutout to all the artists whose work was exhibited in this show, it’s so lovely to meet y’all and I reeeeally hope to cross paths again.

“The Shape of Return” by me! A pop-art collection honoring survivors of sexual violence. The most important part of this project are the stories that these portraits come from. Please take the time to read them, shop for prints, read about The Art of Care show, and view the digital gallery by @ppsne using the link in my bio!

My biggest thanks goes to GOD, each of the brave survivors portrayed here, and Planned Parenthood for creating a space for local artists to openly share their voices, stories, and creative expression as an act of care. What an opportunity. I can’t wait to share more about it.

“Parents”. It took a couple months to paint this — inspired by my childhood, fully influenced by a painting my parents kept around. I, of course, assigned meaning to it based off me seeing them love each other. The songs they played, especially all the Sade, made me romanticize a [new] story about how they met… how two people might become parents. I’m so glad to have this version from my core emotions and memories, up on my wall. :)

The painting in the background of this one is my rendition of the original lol for a little nod innit, a little legal glimpse innit.

My first mural, in the best place in town — HYV! The Dream Community Mural has a replaceable center with parchment paper in each “window”, for our young people/community to draw up their dream community!

Creating a mural is a whole JOURNEY, now I can’t wait to see the dreaming portion… both on the mural and in our community… then the action/campaigning to make those dreams our reality. NO BIGGIE. WE DONE THAT BEFORE!!! 🏄🏽‍♀️💕

Read my short story “The Good Part” in @mutualaidhartford’s latest publication of their Hey MAH! zine.

I wrote this story five years ago, when I was looking through my first cell phone ever and found a video of my parents dancing together. This piece speaks to immigration and the transcendent response I witnessed in my home — my many many homes, where I’d watch my parents dance.

If you’re in the Hartford area, pick up a copy at @semillahtfd @mercadopopct @12charteroak. Thank you to Mutual Aid Hartford for publishing my story and letting me share it with folks.

Maybe I’ll do a reading video if I feel it in my spurrit lol.
