There was a time when an SUV could be blue, yellow, orange, red or even brown and nobody thought twice about it. The colours felt just as much a part of the character as the boxy shapes, chunky bumpers and practical interiors. Somewhere along the way, SUVs became bigger, sleeker and increasingly dominated by shades of black, white, silver and grey. The occasional bright one still exists, but looking at these old ones makes you wonder why we stopped having a little more fun with them.

The Ford Bronco was introduced in 1966 as a simple, compact 4x4 built for off-road use, work and adventure. The first-generation Bronco ran from 1966 to 1977, keeping its unmistakable boxy shape, short proportions and straightforward design while gradually becoming a favourite for everything from everyday driving to serious off-road racing.

Maybe that’s what makes the classic Bronco so good today. It was never designed around trends, yet the proportions, colours and simplicity have aged incredibly well. More than just an old 4x4, the Bronco became an icon of American automotive design, and nearly six decades later, that original shape still looks just right.
