Global digital experience for the return of the Nike After Dark Tour by MW.S ♥️🌐

Six cities, 10,000+ runners, one iconic moment.

We partnered with Nike to build a global digital experience for the return of their After Dark Tour, a series of nighttime running events designed to bring women runners together across Sydney, Shanghai, Seoul, Mumbai, Los Angeles and Mexico City.

The site functions as a hub of information, connection, and storytelling, centered around a distinct list and globe view. While a project with this level of ambition presented its own series of unique challenges, the end result landed with a visual language of high contrast, bold typography, and immersive motion that serves not only as a daring invitation to run, but a line in the sand for what women’s running has never been before.

Our work with the global icon continues to further our commitment to partnering with the world’s leading brands during their biggest moments—creating work of lasting and definitive impact.

Nike Trail x Zegama

“Just a quick out and back” we said.. couldn’t take us long to get to the top of the mountain if we kept a good pace, right? The sun was already starting to set as we left the base camp and by the time we got to the top of the mountain, we got to watch as it dipped over the horizon. The great salt lake reflecting the red and pink heavens, making the water seem like it was on fire.

Coming down was a whole other story and glad we had headlamps but even they could only show you a few feet in front of you. Every sound from the bush was a bison charging at you for stumbling upon it. Every stick in the path was a rattlesnake ready to strike. The mind plays tricks on you in the night. Thank god for good friends who make the dark a little more bearable

These two cuties for Nike Trail! Sometimes the bottom falls out of the clouds and you just have to work through it, this was one of those days. Couldn’t have asked for a better crew to do it with though.

Cut to my college years, going through the motions. I find out I’m good at running, but not THAT good, let’s say upper middle of the pack. You’re definitely not going to the Olympics if you’re upper middle in the southern district. I’m trying to decide what might interest me to do after college, the idea of working at a desk feels like torture.

I need to take an elective to get some credits and I’ve already taken square dancing so that’s off the table. Intro to photography, that sounds fun. Get a Pentax K1000 from a local thrift store. The first assignment our teacher gives us is to go out and spend the day taking photos of complete strangers.

I go to the mall, catch people as they are coming and going. “Excuse me? May I take your picture?” Mostly everyone says yes, asking is the hard part. I stand them in front of a white wall, ask them how their day is going as I bring the camera to my face. CLICK. Instant love strikes a second time.

Nike Trail 22
This one was special to me. Growing up in Alabama, running isn’t top of the “sports you play” chain. Baseball, football, basketball, the classics. I tried those, my brother was GREAT at them all. I needed something that I could make my own and a love story with running began. When I started, I was bad, I mean really bad. Poor form, slow, arms all over the place. My coach told me years later that when he saw me run for the first time he thought “if he was a horse, I’d put him down” BUT I kept at it, one foot in front of the other and slowly, so slowly, I got better,faster, stronger. Cut to my senior year of high school, I’m still running but I’ve just lost my dad and one of my best friends in the same month, I’m aimless and reeling, angry. Haven’t applied to a single college and graduation is right around the corner. One day I’m at a track meet, I think it will be funny to run the race in Converse All Stars like I’m a 70’s basketball star, I use all that anger, beat everyone by 50 meters. After the meet a man approaches me and tells me he liked what he saw in the race. “How would you like to run for my team in college? It comes with a full scholarship” he says. I’d like that very much I say. TBC..

“Take the runners and a camera and just go. Explore, put the miles in, but just have fun” These were the simple directions for this shoot, sometimes that’s all you need. Leave the video village behind and take off. Shot over 4 days around San Francisco, we’d go burn through about 10 miles a day and see where the trail took us. We got a little rain, a little sun, a rolled ankle, but hey, thats trail running. It’s not always pretty but I’ll take it over slapping the pavement any day.
Thanks to everyone involved, but the biggest thanks of all to @petergjovik for being with me through it all. We did alright.

It’s a wrap! Today was my last day on Nike payroll. It’s been an amazing run and I’m so thankful for the experiences I’ve had, the role I’ve played in so many amazing projects, and the fantastic people I’ve had the chance to meet, work with and learn from!

Thanks to those of you that played any role in my time at the swoosh! 🙏✌️
