The image of a marsh on the Georgia coast is 100 miles of lush green grass broken up by rivers emptying into the Atlantic.

While Georgia’s marsh grass may look healthy, scientists say it’s a different story. Hidden root loss is leaving a quarter of Georgia's marsh vulnerable to drowning as sea levels rise.

GPB’s Jillian Magtoto takes us below the mud on Sapelo Island. Find the full story at the link in bio.

Food access gaps in Georgia may be hiding in unexpected places. New UGA research found that people experiencing food insecurity in higher income areas, particularly north and northeast metro Atlanta, may have fewer nearby pantries and limited transportation options. Researchers say stronger coordination, flexible pantry hours, transportation support, and connections to other social services could help more Georgians reach the resources they need.

New research from Franklin College of Arts and Sciences examines heat risks for workers supporting the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Franklin College geographer Andrew Grundstein and colleagues analyzed decades of weather data from tournament host cities and found that many outdoor workers could face unsafe heat conditions during summer matches.

The findings highlight the importance of hydration, shade, and rest breaks in protecting worker health--especially in Atlanta.
