We are very excited to present Rainbow Reels: a collection of short films showcasing LGBTQ+ Arabs!

⭐️Son of a Dancer
Majed, a 20-year-old man, is grieving the loss of his recently deceased mother. One day, he gets the shock of his life when he learns that she used to be a belly dancer. Torn between his relationship with his now-silent father, and Hanine, the woman who will help him overcome his grief; he takes a trip down memory lane in an attempt to discover the mysterious past of his mother.

⭐️Run(a)way Arab
NAZEEM is a 26 year old Middle Eastern drag queen who names herself QUEEN ZA DREAM - she is preparing for a show with the utmost gravity, with an outfit evocative of an Egyptian deity.

⭐️3 Centimetres
In the oldest fun park of Beirut, four young female friends go on a Ferris Wheel ride. During this claustrophobic open-air journey, they touch on intimate subjects, from making best use of three centimetres to Joanna's recent breakup. However, Suzie’s breakup advice leads to an unexpected confession.

⭐️Marco
When a banker invites a sex worker to his London apartment, he finds himself coming face to face with both his own past, and one of the world's largest humanitarian crises.

⭐️Brothers
Winner of 10 Jury & Audience Awards, BROTHERS follows a Muslim Arab boy who realizes he is different, and is fortunate to have an older brother who stands by him and encourages him to be himself, in the face of bias and adversity. Written & directed by Mike Mosallam (Breaking Fast, All-American Muslim), this short film aims to shed light on LGBTQ+ oppression in a familial, religious space that has yet to be portrayed on screen.

⭐️Dearborn Ash
It’s Ramadan in Dearborn, Michigan. Suffering from acute anxiety, Roshan meets up with a friend, only to find her plans for the night completely disrupted.

Welcome back to #CreatorSpotlight, #PrideMonth edition! Each week we'll be highlighting an Arab filmmaker whose work has, one way or another, been shown at our film festival.

Georges Hazim is a director, writer and actor who aims to give voice to the Queer community through film. Born in Beirut, he is a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture from Lebanese University, where he obtained his Masters degree in Directing. He sees film as the ultimate weapon needed in order to reach the freedom to exist without fear.

His short films include Above the Nest (2015), Servants (2016), Bad Trip (2017) and Son of a Dancer (2018), the latter of which was screened as part of our Queer Lens program at #AFF2019. The film is about Majed, "a 20-year-old man, grieving the loss of his recently deceased mother. One day, he gets the shock of his life when he learns that she used to be a belly dancer." The film follows him as he tries to uncover his mother's mysterious past life.

The films are not currently (?) available for streaming but make sure to follow @georgeshazim for possible updates--he plans to work on a feature film soon, so keep an eye out for that as well.
