A little note from behind the scenes.

As Georgina was sharing her caesarean scar journey during filming, this pause happened. Completely unscripted. And I don’t think I’ve ever felt the weight of a moment more deeply.

In Episode 30 of The Postpartum Season, George speaks with such honesty and vulnerability about the intense and complicated emotions she experienced in the hours following a challenging birth.

The love she felt for her baby was enormous. But alongside that love were feelings of anger, guilt and confusion as she tried to make sense of what she had just experienced.

I think it’s so important that we make space for conversations like this. Because birth doesn’t always unfold the way we imagined, and the emotions that follow aren’t always what we expected to feel.

After having an unplanned caesarean, George remembers looking at her postpartum body and wondering why it didn’t look like the postpartum bodies she had seen before.

She questioned whether the way she looked was normal or not. And she felt like she was the only one experiencing this.

Then a woman reached out and told George she was struggling to adjust to her body too. That conversation made her realise something incredibly important - if there were two of them feeling this way, there had to be more.

So George shared her postpartum body online.

And she very quickly discovered that she was far from alone.

There is so much power in representation. In seeing a body that looks like yours and realising that there is nothing unusual about it. In seeing the realities of postpartum alongside the carefully curated images we so often see online.

This week I’m joined by Georgina, or George, a first-time mum to Teddy, to talk about a postpartum season that looked very different from what she had imagined.
George shares her experience of an unplanned caesarean, the guilt and self-blame she carried after Teddy’s birth, and adjusting to a postpartum body she felt completely unprepared for.
We talk about “bounce back” culture, why George decided to start sharing her postpartum body online, finding your village and asking for help.
Now six months postpartum, George reflects on how her relationship with her body and motherhood has changed, and the beautiful sense of contentment she has found in becoming Teddy’s mum.

I thinks it’s about time mums clap back at the ridiculous expectation of the baby snap back!

In the generation of slowing down and actually caring for ourselves this is not realistic and truthfully the media has fucked a lot of people’s perspective of what important in that postpartum time.
