Yesterday the department hosted four studio art alumni, and they are making us SO PROUD! For instance, @bellakubo went on to attend @vcu for graduate school and recently returned from an art residency in Japan; @geraldcollins_ has a solo show currently on at @lansingartgallery; @alexbruegstudio is in a two-person online exhibition on NYC-based Midsummer and is teaching at @orionartcenter; @brihayes64 is the director of @detroitcontemporary. Thanks to all the alumni panelists for sharing their work and advice, and to professor @colleenludwig for organizing the event!

“FOLLOWING YOU” is a site-specific installation on view from November 12th-21st. This transcendent, experiential installation and perceptual exercise is by interdisciplinary artist Gerald Collins (@geraldcollins_ ) created by manipulating light and space presented by PLAYGROUND DETROIT at 1435 Farmer Street. His artwork utilizes non-tangible elements such as light, color and sound in order to evoke an alternate materiality to create omnipresent structures of experience and total consciousness.

On view to the public by street-view daily after dusk until Midnight, or in-person with limited viewing appointments. $10 Suggested Donation. RSVP link in bio. Limited viewing capacity (Max. of 3 people per viewing; masks required and enforced social distancing).

"Perception provides perspective. As we gain perspective we begin to challenge the perception of reality. Whether that is through memory association, new information, or through life experiences; there is no right or wrong answer to what reality is or should be. The perspective portion of this exercise comes through applied color theory. Utilizing the psychological affects of color and the manipulation of it to provoke psychological responses that are subjective to the viewer.” - @geraldcollins_
