One of the first objects I fell in love with 20 years ago when my obsession for #antiques began were #confitpots. This collection by @gerard_saes had me taking a trip down memory lane. I was vacationing in the #southoffrance and had stumbled upon my first confit pot at a market in Ville Neuve les Avignon. - Confit de canard is one of the naughtiest indulgences on the plate - a French dish I love served with crispy fried potatoes and a salad. Seeing how this dish would have traditionally been preserved Intrigued me. Antiques have stories behind them and learning the stories make them more than a decorative item for your kitchen but rather a lesson in history that decorates your life. Confit is a French word that means “to preserve”– the mustard and green pots were used for storing cooked meats and then buried in the ground or stored in stone-lined larders. This storage process preserved the cooked meat without refrigeration and could then be enjoyed throughout the winter months. The bottom halves were left unglazed for burying in the ground since the glaze would normally fall off sealed in the ground.
