After competing in three sports throughout high school, recent Cambridge graduate @gerlach_micah is focusing on the game he loves most.

The standout wrestler, baseball player and golfer will continue his golf career this fall at Central Community College in Columbus, fulfilling a longtime goal of playing the sport at the collegiate level.

“When you just hit a pure shot, there’s no better feeling than that,” Gerlach said.

The opportunity comes after years of dedication and perseverance. Two years ago, Gerlach underwent UCL surgery before returning to compete in both baseball and golf. Last year, he finished just one stroke shy of the Nebraska Class D state golf championship and again contended near the top this spring.

“You’ve got to put in a lot of time,” Gerlach said. “When people are doing other things, you’ve got to be on the golf course practicing, or on the range, or on the putting green.”

Although golf will be his primary focus in college, Gerlach plans to spend the remainder of the summer competing in golf tournaments while also playing baseball.

“I’ll probably play in a few golf tournaments,” he said. “I’ll be playing baseball too, so just kind of have to counterbalance that.”

Gerlach believes the two sports complement each other, particularly the mental side of competition.

“It just helps you keep calm, stay the course,” he said.

This fall, Gerlach will take the next step in his athletic career, turning a lifelong dream into reality at Central Community College.

Made a lot of great memories, met some amazing people, and had the opportunity to play with and against some of the best. Thankful for the experience and everything this All-Star Game brought.

This little dude ain't so little anymore 🥹

Micah, you've been more than just the ring bearer of our wedding; you've been in our lives for almost literally as long as Jessica and I have been together. So for us, when we see you graduate today, I know it'll hit a little bit different from others who we've seen walk with a diploma in hand.

We're proud of you. May you possess the humility to follow God and do His will wherever he leads you in this life.
