15 partners, 30 tournaments (1 left), 10 states, better part of 7 months. trying to make the avp while living in new york was always going to be logistically ridiculous. doing it without a consistent partner felt even more daunting. a lot of people plainly just don’t understand it. and i admit that even reading it, it sounds counterintuitive. but i love new york city. and clearly i love beach volleyball. and the community here has been the best thing to ever happen to my game. i never broke into the upper echelons of the south bay training groups, and quite honestly, i’ve been overlooked every step of the way. representing nyc wherever i go is a great honor and there is an abundance of talent here. we just don’t have the local tournaments to showcase it. there are blueprints to a great beach volleyball career outside of CA and FL. and i’m trying to write my own in real time.

i got the most sick i’d been in years this past december. and the thing i thought about the most during that time was that i had to qualify this year. after making the game to get in in denver last year and the schedule that was released, it felt inexcusable to not do so. and i ended up doing it, and making it with 4 other new yorkers on top of that. by june. i achieved most of my goals this year, i also lost a lot and didn’t even find a partner at times. i was on a variety of big stages: south beach court 1, va beach center court, pottstown center court, dewey center court, 6 man vs martha’s, mbo court 1, michelle o’neill. i’ve never felt as prepared for those moments. and i’m really proud of the focus i had this year. in all honesty, i’m not sure i’ll ever be able to play this much again, but i’m sure as hell gonna try. and i really feel like i have laid the foundation to chase what i always wanted - as many main draws as this body will allow. people say that beach volleyball needs more storytelling and personability. well, here’s a piece of my story.

ps shamelessly plugging that @jaredzwy and i are looking for sponsors next season, with the piling up entry, travel, and accommodation costs. please hit my line if you’re interested 🙏
