100km+ so far , PICKUPSTICKS , DAY 5 OF 7 .
9am - 7:45pm ( light till dark ) . 10hr , 45m on foot . 36,600+ steps , 26.62km gained . 2 & 3/4 large bags of compacted trash total .

ROUTE :
Start : 9am (Shoreline/Tideline Stint First) O’Sullivans Beach Boat Ramp > End of Moana Beach + Every beach path between . (Walking Paths Stint Back) : End of Moana Beach > O’Sullivans Beach Boat Ramp . Then Pickup Bags left at Checkpoint (2x @ Rivermouth Bridge Crossing , 1x In-Hand) . Home safe and sore by 8:30pm .

Takeaways from the day and Notes :
Today walking 26kms somehow adds up to over 100km in the last 5 days with my head pointed down (110.01km to be exact) (≈ 62 miles for the Americans here). And I only got two and a half bags of trash today , fair for 26km . By the time I walked from O’Sullys boat ramp to Moana I’d filled 1 bag . I love this coast and enjoy its surf weekly being close to my home ! The beaches aren’t too bad in terms of larger landfill , there is however microplastics everywhere , that takes time to pick up along the way ! The carparks are pretty polluted , seems to be a trend that when sat in the car the ability to walk 50m to a bin is lost . Anyways , I walked past a favourite @gerrywedd piece at Y-Steps . @rosemasonn and her amazing father came to join me for a bit of the walk through Triggs in the morn and bought me lunch (thankyou <3) . 20+ handshakes and thankyous along the walk from people I’ve never met , and they know me somehow now . Then @fried._stf made my day when bumping into him & Wes on a walk , we discussed life , how SBS is going & how the last 5 days has been . I’m feeling the toll physically and mentally by now but with this much support and sights around me I’m ready for tomorrows . I still can’t feel my sticks (legs) and I don’t have a back anymore .

Best Finds : Pac Sky Visor , Gnome (Left it) , Barbie , Core Snow Glove .

Board Orders Today : x0 and that’s okay !

Worst Finds : Lures , Lines , 1000+ Cigs , 100+ Cans , Unsheathed Johnny .

Tomorrow : Later morning off to Knights and go from there … See you again soon !

The amount of support I’ve seen in five days is insane , you’re the best , thanks everyone .

The Journal of Australian Ceramics, Vol 65 No 2, July 2026

FOCUS: MONEY AND MEANING
FOUR ARTWORLDS
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF
THE PRESSURE COOKER AND SELF CARE
NATIONAL EDUCATION SURVEY

What does it mean to make for a living? What is the impact of this making? Where is our craft going? Is what we are selling more than a pot? Can we say no to opportunities when they arise if they are not aligned with our beliefs? Can refusal be generative? Can we keep on going, cleaved to the meaning that remains, either way?

The theme for this issue of the Journal – MONEY & MEANING – is big, bothersome, and activating. We start from difficult positions – trying to continue to afford doing things, what to do with the accumulation of work (that no one tells you about), changing connections and relationships, the unaffordability (and undesirability?) of having a solo practice, the strangeness of commerce intersecting with the enduring magicalness of our material practices ... and all these happening in rough socio-political times. What an important, good, unavoidable challenge. We are all worthy of doing good work. Giving a damn is irresistible.
