A lot was done in camera here that I’m super stoked about. Here’s a little behind-the-scenes look at how our vision came to life for The ROM. On the top: our storyboards. On the bottom: the final spot from last June. 📽️✨ Walking into a shoot with a solid plan—storyboards, shot lists, and previs—keeps everything on track. But the real magic happens when you have to pivot, especially when working with live animals (equal parts amazing and unpredictable!). These boards, created by the insanely talented @art.by.gavin, were key in aligning the client, agency, crew, and VFX team while also shaping the final edit. Cats are unpredictable, but we still had to go in with a solid plan on how to shoot this ambitious spot for the ROM’s new “Wild Cat” exhibit in just 2 days. I re-connected with my pal @art.by.gavin to create these fantastic and striking storyboards. These were super helpful in communicating ideas to agency, client and also our virtual production team, art department, grip & lighting crew and the VFX team. @calumj and I also created an animatic using these boards ahead of the shoot, to give us a sense of how things could be paced out and audition some music. While the edit changed quite a bit by the end, the boards and animatic were a great place to start.
