“My three Moms”

Ma - She is my literal mom. She gave me my desire for knowledge, my taste in music and cuisine, my freedom of religion, or lack thereof, and above all else, her hard work throughout her life spent sharing her indomitable human spirit which allowed me the chance to reach for the highest of heights.

Vicky - My moms sister / my aunt, gave me a childhood filled with extravagant dining, car rides to hikes and trips to the countryside, rides to & from extracurricular activities in her many cars, moral support when things weren’t quite right in my life and support for my cinematic journey. If you look closely at the credits of my films, she is usually credited as Executive Producer. No matter if I was sick or just tired, she would always be there for me.

Nana - my mom’s mother / my grandma, lives far away, I rarely see her but she always is there for me when I need her most. She is a complicated soul who has the explosive energy of a firecracker in the body of a 4’11 woman who lived through the Cold War as a Military wife, yet still, she loves wheel of fortune, scratch off tickets and spreading jam on toast with me over some earl grey tea. Her laugh is priceless and she’s a tough critic. All of her tendencies is what makes her my grandma and I wouldn’t trade her for the world; I am lucky that with each coming day she is still here to update me on where the black bears are in her small mountain town, and to send me pictures of rocks to cheer me up when sad.

All of these women helped form me into the man I am today, and without them, I’d be adrift in my life. Thank you, and happy Mother’s Day!
