[사진일록(寫眞日錄)] 5. @as.from.seoul 2025년 11월 11일부터 11월 14일, 먼 거리에서 말하는 사람들과 ‘쇼핑몰의 미술, 쇼핑몰과 미술’ - 방콕에 도착한 저녁, 다음날의 일정을 위해 검은색 하의를 사러 곧 문을 닫는 쇼핑몰에 무작정 걸어갔습니다. 시리낏 왕대비(Queen Mother Sirikit)가 작고한 지 얼마 지나지 않은 시점인지라 도시 곳곳에 추모 제단이 놓여 있었습니다. 이때 떠오른 것은 태국 문학 장르 ‘니랏(Nirat, นิราศ)’이었는데, 이는 멀리 떨어진 상대에게 보내는 서간문으로 쓰인 여행기이자 산문시로, 보통 유람중인 화자가 독자에게 말을 거는 형식을 취합니다. - 마침 니랏이라는 장르적 특성에 기대어 ‘여러 아시아 미술계의 서로 다른 여러 당신께’ 드리는 원고 발표를 앞둔 시점이었습니다. AIC(Asian Institutional Critique)에 송고한 글, 「“어떠한 제한도, 또 안 된다는 금지도 없어요”, 하지만….」이라고 머뭇거리며 운을 떼는 제목이 서울에서 방콕으로, 또는 그 반대로 보내는 시선임을 짚어주기를 바랐습니다. “원거리에서의 ‘읽기와 질문하기’는 물리적 발디딤, 즉 ‘내가 머무는 땅과 나의 사유가 같은 곳에 있으며, 이를 초월할 수 없다’는 자각과 함께”한다는 문장은 새삼 방콕에 몸과 정신이 옮겨왔다는 사실을 상기하게 했습니다. - 사회 문제에 관한 내외부적인 ‘절충’이 중시되어온 ‘태국이라는 사유 공간’ 안에서 소수의 기억을 붙잡는 작품의 탄생은 그래서 귀중한 닻이 되어줍니다. 프라팟 지와랑산(Prapat Jiwarangsan)의 2024년 연작 〈기생 가족(Parasite Family)〉, 〈시암 가족의 초상(The portrait of Siamese Family)〉은 방콕 쇼핑몰의 거대한 전광판과 대조되는 조각난 인물 사진 더미입니다. 방콕 예술문화센터(BACC) 맞은편 쇼핑몰이 뿜어내는 불빛은 아노차 수위차콘퐁(Anocha Suwichakornpong)의 작품 〈서사(Narrative)〉의 배경이라고는 믿을 수 없을 만큼 떠들썩한 모습을 비추고 있었고요. 2010년 3월부터 5월, ‘레드셔츠(UDD)’의 반정부 시위자들이 센트럴 월드(CentralWorld)가 있는 랏차프라송(Ratchaprasong) 교차로를 점거했고, 5월 19일 태국 군부의 강경 진압이 이루어졌습니다. 그밤, 11시 30분에는 10년이라는 시간이 지난 뒤에야 발표된 작품, 그리고 작품들의 심상과 유리된 지대를 걸으며 “예술가가 진술하려는 사건과 사회적 후퇴가 교착”된 태국이라는 창작 조건의 특성을 그려보았습니다. 그렇기에 태국에서 ‘말을 건네는’, 개인 단위의 사적 서사와 동기로 그전의 기억을 돌보는 작품에 관해 적록(摘錄)하는 글은 쓰여져야만 한다고 되새기면서요. - Dot In Bankok📍 • 한국문화예술위원회 동남아시아 리서치 트립의 일환으로 진행되었습니다. 2025년 11월 11일: Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) 2025년 11월 12일: Office of Contemporary Art and Culture (OCAC)｜Bangkok Art Biennale｜Jim Thompson Art Center｜Bangkok citycity gallery & Ghost Triennale 2025년 11월 13일: BACC｜Gatekeeper, 〈Wrong Planet〉, Ashland Mines 〈untitled〉(Bangkok CityCity Gallery, 19:00-22:00) - '해방공간' 네트워크를 향한 큐레토리얼 및 편집 워크숍📍 2025년 12월 14일: 나선도서관 #asfromseoul #AsianInstitutionalCritique

Thank you @3ndlessreturn & @hkcronline for hosting 🤍 Cover Photo by @aksarajacob ________ Barbara Pleaser (he/they) is a DJ/Producer and Performance Artist based in Bali, Indonesia. On their DJ sets, Barbara explores different characteristics of sounds that range from deconstructed club, post club, percussive bass, breaks, classic and drumless trance — compiled in an overall flow that serves high energy, unpredictable, and sentimental feelings to the underground dancefloor, resistance rave and street march, local vogue night and kiki ballroom, and art festivals. Skilled in DJ-ing digitals, vinyl records, and cassette jockey since 2015. He is currently active in building community through several transdisciplinary platforms and fields. He is one of the co-founders of @temu_gerak, a movement gathering space for non-dancers and dancers to inspire each other through guerilla sessions. They are also an active member of @pure.records.bali (Panjer Unbounded Rhythm Ensemble!), and @disco.thique to organize different type of world through rave around Bali. He is also active as one of @qamerad’s curator team in organizing guerilla film screenings and programs, as well as organizing performance workshops, writing performance essays, and incubating their physical theater acting and repertoires with @mulawaliinstitute. They are still producing music as lyricist and vocalist with a garage-punk unit that he co-founded in 2014, @bananachtunes, and starting to do live shows as one of the vocalists with Medan-based hardcore-punk band, @peachoftoday in 2025.

I’m very grateful to be invited by Dr. Alex Rich, President & CEO of the Gibbes Museum of Art, to perform 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘺 𝘢𝘯 𝘈𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘵 in the ethereal and sacred Campbell Rotunda. The osmosis is synchronizing, it’s true. We are tired of feeling small. A “Capital Complex” that dehumanize us. During @ghost2568ghost and participating for @clubparasite, I learned to nurture imagination that is resilient and somehow stubborn. A lot of first time & first trial during this repertoire, also doing most of the things by myself.. but this is one of the most enjoyable production of my solo performance. Thank you for letting me be a little fragment in the end of the trilogy GHOST2568: “Wish We Were Here” and letting me share my experience. Thank you for a super sweet production team that made everything goes really well: Tanat, Club Parasite, Kate, Supamas, OP, & all Bangkok CityCity Team, Rueangrith, & all Duck Unit Team, Korakrit, Amal, & all GHOST Team and BACC. Happy to made new friends, hope we can see each other again. A conclusion and a blank page ahead - I’ve been researching death rituals, spaces where humans are not protagonist and elaborating on that via artworks - this year has been very weird and over all presenting lessons that showed me the urgent need to take the main focus of life away from labor - perhaps we conclude a journey when we have arrived to the destination - it has been over 10 years I’m having the opportunity to travel, study, have conversations around dying, grieving and doing all of this despite the trauma and taboo that is so much around this condition that we all have - we die, we grieve, we live. Now I’m in this moment to depart from this, but still carrying it with me and find myself in a blank page. In the videos : - 1. a public cremation ritual of a mother lead by her daughter at Bali, Indonesia in a Hindu tradition. - 2. “To let go” at the final stage, months later of transformation and transmutation of the piece at São Paulo Pinacoteca. -3. Stonehenge visit with an archeologist with Spike Island team, England, Uk. -4. “Witnesses” at Museu Habitat in Barcelona, Spain - sculptures made with the remains of previous exhibited installations. -5. “Sleeping Methodologies” a tabula rasa show created while I was having a burn out crisis. -6. Wat Pho temple and the huge reclining Buddha in Bangkok, Thailand - I just wanted to lay down from my exhaustion this whole year. -7. “Patience” for Ghost:2568 festival in Bangkok at Bangkok City City gallery. -8. Ballon flight over Teotihuacan pyramids in Mexico in the context of day of the dead festivities.
