Gia Green is a freshman at Lincoln-Way Central High School in Illinois. The 5-foot-4 libero played her 13s, 14s and 15s seasons with Xtreme Performance Volleyball Club on the Elite 2 team. She outlined her journey in this Digging Dish.
“I started playing volleyball after being inspired by my old babysitter, Mia Mattingly, and began playing club volleyball with G2 during my 12s season,” she said.
She started as a setter and moved back to defense.
“I played setter in my 12s and 13s seasons before transitioning to libero for my 14s and 15s seasons, which helped me grow and better understand the game,” she said.
Playing college volleyball is her goal.
“It has always been a dream of mine to play college volleyball, and I hope to play at Penn State, Texas or Wisconsin,” she said.
She works out and does lessons with her club team.
“Outside of team practices, I work out on my own and do private training at my club,” she said.
She enjoys competing and supporting her teammates.
“My favorite part of volleyball is the competitive environment and being part of a team, pushing myself to improve while supporting my teammates and celebrating success,” she said.
She offered words of wisdom.
“My advice for younger players is to work hard, stay consistent and not be afraid to try new positions,” she said.
