If you could only choose 1 book...?👀✨️📖💕
This post is thanks to my amazing book friends that answered my stories yesterday!! This was very fun to put together and I should tell you my pick too right? Hahah Well, if I could convince everyone to read 1 book it would have to be Fahrenheit 451🔥❤️ one of my favourite classics and still so relevant to what we're going through right now in the world.

What about you? What book you wish everyone would read? 📚✨️😎💕

— immortal rose review 🌹

rating: 4 stars

I hadn’t planned to read Immortal Rose so soon, but after the raving reviews for the romance and amazing quotes on social media, I ditched my TBR to pick this up. So, did the romance live up to the hype? ABSOLUTELY.

This book is so worth it for Hugh Thornton. This man made the novel for me, and I’d throw out five stars for him. It’s so refreshing to have a romance that does slow burn and yearning properly. Hugh is tortured, broody, and morally gray, but also passionate, devoted, funny, and sarcastic. He strikes such a good balance between grumpy and funny. I was worried about his blood pressure because he’s so angry all the time, LMFAO. But most of it comes from a justified place. Deep down, he has a genuinely good heart.

And his devotion! When this man makes a vow, he sees it through. To be loved with the same intensity Hugh gives Viola. I’m confident if he landed in hell, he’d find his way out just to be with her again. The way he constantly notices everything about her, too? Perfection.

Viola is a super tough FMC with strong survivor’s instinct. No wonder Hugh loves her. I loved seeing her stand up to the men in the novel. I just wish I resonated more with her past. A lot was told rather than shown, leaving me slightly disconnected.

The romance was SO GOOD. The slow burn was agonising, but fuelled with so much passion. They’re like an old married couple most of the time, LMFAO. But I love how Hugh is always attuned to her emotions, and vice versa. I need all the quotes engraved into my soul. Thanking Bracken for making this adult instead of YA because some of the scenes? Phew.

The magic system was so unique. I also loved the unhinged, morally gray found family, LMFAO. And surprisingly, the book is surprisingly funny when it wants to be despite being dark and gritty a lot of the time.

My main issue was the plot and pacing, which dragged. So many plot points and antagonists came in that I wasn’t sure how it’d connect, and it didn’t need to be 500 pages. While I loved the romance, I’m not sure I’d reread it due to the heavy plot.

But that ending, though!! I need answers and will definitely read the sequel.

— she haunts me still by @wordsbyde 🥀🐦‍⬛

Rating: 4.75 stars

Wow. This was another enthralling read by De Elizabeth that kept me awake all night because of how binge-worthy it was. There’s such a magnetic quality to Elizabeth’s writing that entrances you and lures you in through her lyrical prose. There are so many quotes from this one that deserve to be framed in a museum. Layered with twists, red herrings, and beyond complex characters, this was an absolute home run of a book that heavily delivered on the horror, dark academia, and old theater vibes.

She Haunts Me Still is as grotesque as it is sensual, gory as it is haunting, an evocative story that lingers long after its last page. De knows how to make you feel, whether it’s disgust, anguish, or heartbreak. The imagery was so vivid that a lot of it played out like an early 2010s TV show in my head. I loved the homage to old school theater and the core message of what it means to love and let go of past ghosts, as well as what defines safety in a healthy relationship. But it’s also just a fun, spooky read getting to the bottom of Shore College and the evil lurking beneath it. The misdirections humbled me LMFAO. Just when I think I know where the book was going, it goes a completely different way.

De has a way with words that makes you feel for these characters quickly, but Ezra takes the win for most complex. I could do a whole case study on why he’s so well written. You’re constantly torn between wanting to stay the hell away from him, trusting him, detesting him, and feeling a lot of sympathy for his past and the man he could have been.

I was also really happy with Mallory’s character development. While she trusted and fell in love a bit too easily and quickly, I loved seeing her take control of her life and navigate who offers her real comfort and security. I also loved the queer representation and found the novel to have a fitting end to all its characters. Can’t wait for more De books🥀
